OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Summer is in general a nice girl. She tries not to start anything that would bring negative attention to her or her family. She is a family person, and as such, is willing to help any member of her family in anyway and anyhow. She can be very attentive when needed. She is pretty intelligent, in the aspect that when she learns something, she basically never forgets it. With this, is you do wrong her, she will never forget it and you will always have a sore spot on her.
She and her brother are very close and she watches over him as he watches over her. She makes sure that his kleptomania doesn’t get discovered by covering his tracks. Summer is OCD and when she is given any kind of project or goal she works at it until it is perfect. It can’t have anything go wrong or she isolates herself until she figures out how it went wrong. Her isolation is so bad that she’ll even make sure Swiftscales doesn’t come near her. In this state, the only way to get her out it to try and force her into another goal or help her without her realizing it.
If you do end up wronging her, she will go out of her way to avoid you. Turning in the opposite direction if she sees you, having someone else talk to you. She holds grudges. The only way for you to get back on her good side is by showing her, however difficult it may be, that you truly are sorry.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Summer has dark brown, almost black hair, with brown eyes. Her skin is a fair color since almost no sun is seen on Berk. When there is the occasional sun, she does try and stay in it as much as possible. She stands at 5’8” and about 130 pounds. She is of a slender build and as such cannot wield the sword or axe as easy as her brother can. This is why she sticks to bow and arrows and the occasional dagger. Since she has a fear of hypothermia, she tends to overdress in warm clothes. Fur boots, sometimes fur gloves, thick jackets, and pants are her almost everyday clothes. She has a couple scars from falling off her dragon the first couple times they flew together. She also has one long scar going up her side from the talon of an angry dragon that she hadn’t been able to escape without help.
Her play-by is Crystal Reed.
HISTORY:
Summer was born first, on May 5th her brother born shortly after her. Yes. Her parents were graced with twins. And they were ecstatic. They both got exactly what they wanted: their mom, a daughter, and their dad, a son. Being raised with a twin, made Summer a very protective sibling. She would constantly watch out for him and always want to be around him. They were very hard to separate and most of the time, their parents would jut let them be. His or her antics never harmed anyone.
As they aged they constantly played with their parents dragons and would talk about what kind of dragons they would like to have. When they were finally able to read The Book of Dragons Summer let it known that she wanted an intelligent and fast dragon. The Longwings really captivated her, but her parents were nervous for when she would be of age to go look for and tame one. Longwings lived in the mountaintops and they knew they wouldn’t see their daughter for a while.
Mitch was into a slightly easier, yet more difficult dragon, and their parents also feared for him. They basically feared for both their children getting dragons although they knew that when the time came both would be able to handle it. Until that time came though, their parents started them on other tasks. Summer became quite skilled in archery, like her mother. Really though, that was thanks to what went on at those lessons.
In their family lineage, girls from a young age where taught dragonese from their mothers. The sons had to learn it on their own. Her mom didn’t really know how it came to be, but Summer didn’t protest. When her mom and her moms dragon would be teaching the young girl dragonese, they would also practice archery. Summer had tried to wield a sword at a ViT lesson and had failed. Daggers were okay for her to handle, but it was easily seen the bow and crossbow were much easier for her.
But what her parents didn’t know is that Summer would teach Mitch dragonese. They would go on their “adventures” around Berk and Summer would tell him what she learned that day. Her parents have never figured it out to this day, they just assumed that Mitch taught himself like he was supposed. As the twins aged, ViT lessons passed and the day grew closer to when they would go look for their dragons. They both left on the same day, Mitch heading into the forest and Summer heading up the mountaintop with her mom on her dragon. Her mom was just going to give her a life up there and then leave her too it.
As her mom flew away, Summer watched for a bit before turning back to the mountains. She was 15 years old and completely on her own. She had her bag, filled with some food, warm clothes, a blanket, and other essentials. Her bow lay across her back with her quiver and a couple daggers lay at her hips in her pants. She could do this. She had been training for this. It took a couple hours before Summer found an huge cave in the side of the mountain that looked like it could house several big dragons, or Longwings, if she was lucky.
And she was. That night a small group of Longwings landed on the edge of the ledge and settled down in the cave. Summer had been moving around with the wind to make sure that she was always downwind of the cave. She didn’t want to alert them of her presence so soon. She wanted to watch them for a couple days before then. But her luck ran out as through the night when she slept, the wind changed direction.
She woke up early thanks to a hot steam blowing on her face. As she opened her eyes, she let out a scream seeing a dragon face only a foot from hers. Her scream seemed to have startled the large dragon, for it snapped its head back. Trying to calm herself, Summer put a hand to her heart and started speaking rapidly in dragonese about how she scared her nearly to death. The green Longwing only looked at the girl. Before its eyes narrowed and it turned on the spot saying something about stupid humans.
Summer huffed and started getting up, she needed to hunt and fast. The sun had already risen, and in unfamiliar territory she didn’t want to get lost at night. Grabbing her bow and arrows she headed into the forest. A few hours later she returned. But as she did she realized she didn’t have anything to help her start the fire. She’d have to do it the basic way. Night was approaching fast and what she was doing still wasn’t working. As she grew more and more angry that she couldn’t get the fire started, she didn’t realize her voice had started raising.
That same green dragon watched her from a distance, chuckling at the human’s stupidity. But after watching for a bit, she grew tired of the talking and decided that maybe if she helped the human would stop yelling and she could get some sleep. So she helped out with a small puff of fire onto what the human was starting to lite. Summer muttered quick thanks, but the dragon only seemed to make a sound like scoff before turning away again.
It went on like that for a few weeks. Summer trying to do something and failing, only to have the dragon help her to get the young girl to stop talking. It got to the point, where they even started exchanging a few words. Summer found out the green dragons name was Swiftscales, given to her by her mother. Summer started talking about her home and missing her brother and the Longwing would be lying if she wasn’t interested in what the village was like. She had never flown low enough to see it. She had always flown high up in the sky to where it looked like a spec.
After a moments pause she told Summer that she would like to see Berk. Summer agreed wholeheartedly, only because she just wanted to get home. At this point she didn’t even care if the green dragon became hers or not. She just wanted to get back home where it wasn’t freezing cold and snowing. So they left the next day, Swiftscales allowing Summer to fly on her back. Of course, they didn’t get very far or high without Summer falling a few times due to her never riding a longwing before but after a few tries they got the hang of it enough to get down to Berk where Summer just walked to her house.
Swiftscales was fascinated by Berk and all its inhabitants. Each person was different, there were many different dragons, and there were many different smells, some not so pleasant. After a few days of staying there, she decided to head back to her own home, back in the mountains. She left without a goodbye, why would she need to? But Summer saw her fly off and she was a bit disappointed. She had believed that if the dragon was really fascinated she would decide to stay.
She let out a sigh but smiled at her brother who had made it home with his dragon a few days before she came back. Summer decided then that she would just find the easiest dragon to have, no matter what it be. But as Swiftscales flew back home, she couldn’t help the feeling of loss. It couldn’t be from the young human girl? As she flew further and further she realized that, yes, Summer did make an impact on her. She stopped her flight and looked back to Berk. If she stayed she could find out more about their traditions, eat more of the wonderful fish, and perhaps become a part of their lifestyle. IF she went back to the mountaintops she’d live a lonely life with others of her breed and not really learn anything new.
The decision was basically made, Longwings had a curiosity that couldn’t be extinguished so easily. She flew back to Berk. To say Summer was excited to see the green dragon back would be a bit of an understatement. The two made an agreement that Swiftscales could leave whenever she wanted, but then again, any dragon could if they wanted too. It would never happen though. As the months and years passed the two grew closer and closer. Swiftscales became protective of the young girl and grew fond of her and her family.
To this day, Swiftscales doesn’t have the want to leave and Summer is happy with her dragon. Some days they will fly for hours on end, other they will go on their own, Summer to help out anyone, Swiftscales to go do dragon things.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Bow and arrows. Crossbows. Daggers.
FIGHTING STYLE: Long range with her bow and crossbow. With her daggers she can either fight up close, or throw them a short distance.
DRAGON NAME: Swiftscales
DRAGON TYPE: Longwing
DRAGON APPEARANCE:
Like many Longwings, Swiftscales comes in only one color and as such can only see this color. Her color is green. The darkest greens can be found along her spine and top of her head, while the green gets lighter as it goes down her body. Her under belly is such a light green that it almost looks white.
DRAGON PERSONALITY:
Swiftscales has a very unique personality. Much like her breed, she thinks very highly of herself and will look at her reflection if she sees it. She also enjoys going near the forest because then she can stand next to the trees which are near her color and she can actually tell are green. She is very intelligent and can hold a conversation very easily with other dragons and humans (if they know dragonese). She has a very good memory, like Summer, and will remember a lot of the things said to her and done around her.
Although she did eventually warm-up to Summer, she doesn’t warm up to the other humans right away. It takes being around someone a lot for her to have a nice conversation. If she doesn’t like you, she’ll let you know by ignoring you, insulting you in some way, or just plain telling you. This doesn’t mean that she won’t converse with you, just that her tone won’t be as warm as it is to Summer or her brother. In regards to Summer, she does want to protect the young girl, but at the same time, she knows when Summer can hold her own and she won’t get involved. If she has to get involved, she goes all in. She won’t necessarily start fights, but she will finish them.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES:
Swiftscales has a couple things that can help her fight. Not only does she have talons and teeth, but thanks to her breed, she also has the spikes that can be used if she rams her body into whatever she is fighting. They also protect her, slightly, if another tries to claw or bite at her.
Fire: Her stream of constant fire, before she runs out for the day, is average for her breed at 2 minutes. If she does constant puffs of fire, she can go about 11.
Flight: Being a female Longwing, she is very aerodynamic for her large size. Her features are sharper allowing her to turn quicker and move faster. Her body also has a lighter weight.
