NAME:Captain Aashiq ibn al-Salah ibn Reyhan (pronounced Ah-sheek e-bin al Sal-ah e-bin Ray-haan.) His nickname is Ifrit (pronounced if-reet) and what he goes by most often. It means a suitor who is the son of one who is good and righteous who is the son of one favored by God.” (Ibn means 'son of'.)
AGE:27
OCCUPATION: Sailor/Trader/Swordsman
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Heterosexual male
LIKES: The open ocean, fishing, writing poetry, practicing swordsmanship, riding horses, meeting new people, trading with others..
DISLIKES: Unfaithful women, dishonest souls, manipulative folk, loud sounds.
STRENGTHS: His sailing skill, his skill with a blade, his ability to read people very quickly, his gentlemanly behavior.
WEAKNESSES: Ifrit is very trusting, perhaps too so, he is a bit naïve when it comes to how he treats other people, he is not used to such cold weather, and is not used to dragons, he has partial hearing loss making it difficult to fight at times.
FEARS: Being lost at sea, having no one to read his story, losing his hearing completely, dying alone and with his name lost to slander.
AMBITIONS: One day to return home, to become a published author, to meet a trustworthy woman and possibly have a child or two, to build his own home.
SECRETS: Ifrit is a skilled archer and horseman but these are skills he does not display to the world very often. He is also a poet in secret. He left his homeland willingly after a noble woman who was married and whose advances he rejected accused him of trying to tempt her into making her commit adultery.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Ifrit is a gentleman who fell in love with the open ocean the minute his father first took him out to fish when he was a toddler. He is very even headed and calm, a sharp contrast to most Vikings, he finds. Eternally polite and dignified with his wording, he is easily approachable but sometimes hard to keep in conversation. When not engaged with others, he is often fishing, writing in journals or taking long walks around the island. Usually he declines to partake of much banter, owing to a dislike for loud noises and religious reasons for not drinking and eating certain foods.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Ifrit is a six foot two man of a strong and toned build with shoulder length dark hair usually kept in complicated swirls or shaggy locks. Around his head is a band of cloth similiar to a hat but wrapped entirely around itself. His eyes are a piercing dark brown and on his cheeks rest sigils tattooed in a strange tongue. A deep tan covers his entire body, with various scars going along spots especially of his arms and torso when it is visible. The man keeps his facial hair neatly trimmed around his mouth but otherwise has none. Usually most of his body is covered but his hands are visible and they too have tattooed markings in a strange tongue and are rough, calloused and scarred.
Ifrit is often dressed in black clothing that appears to be mostly thick, stiff cloth or light dark leather. Around his chest from right shoulder to left hip is a belt containing various pockets of unknown items. He wears a second belt covering his thick tunics which houses two long curved iron swords of peculiar make and design sitting not in stiff leather scabbards but hung on reinforced metal and leather rings and crossbands. Around his back nestled against the crest of his hips is another sheathe containing a smaller dagger. He wears boots sealed with pitch inside to ward off the water and his leggings are always tucked inside of them, but bloused over the edges. In the right one on the outer edge is another dagger barely visible save for the handle.

HISTORY: Ifrit is from a land far south, where sand and sun are the mistresses of the day, where djinn and zephyr walk side by side with the One God. He was born in the fall season and grew up very close to the waterways leading to the open ocean. 27 years into his life as of this scribing, he went from being a journeyman fisherman and sailor's apprentice to a skilled fisherman, tradesman and swordsman. Eventually he came into possession of a small but swift and hardy trading vessel he christened the Ghaniyah which translates to 'beautiful woman'. And beautiful she is, for he has been married to her and kept her in pristine condition since he was able to acquire her from his former mentor.
When able to be pried away from his fishing and sailing lessons, he was trained in middle eastern combat. Forgoing shields or single blades, he opted to learn dual wielded close combat and trained for three hours a day nearly every day since he was 12 years old. This earned him his nickname, as his fury in combat was very potent. In addition to that, he was trained in archery and was raised to be a skilled horseman. Definitely his skills are more of the ocean and the sail, but he has the lesser skills to fall back on.
Unfortunately, his homeland was not all a paradise. One day he was approached by a gorgeous woman who desired him. But she was married to a high ranking official and being a man of honor, declined. Over and over and over again. When the woman finally took the hint she also took her wrath to Ifrit. He did not lay a hand on her but she struck him in the ear, damaging his hearing and making him very sensitive to loud sounds as well as having trouble in combat occasionally. Additionally, she complained to their local Caliph, saying that Ifrit had tried to tempt her into being unfaithful to her husband. Given that Ifrit had a very noble reputation, the Caliph in secret permitted him to save face by leaving the land for an indefinite period of time. Taking the deal, he got into his ship and put his home to his rudder.
Ifrit is a follower of Islam and follows their clothing, prayer and dietary guidelines to an extent. He left behind his mother, Sfiyah bint Ali and his father Salah ibn Reyhan, with a great sadness in his heart. After his exile, having nowhere to go and no family outside of his homeland, he went up the coast of Europe, visiting every country and trying to find a home for himself. Time and again he was greeted with politeness but still the wall of a foreigner- for him, it was not easy to hide. Eventually he began travelling in colder waters, a change in his sails he thought might herald a change in his life. When in the northern lands, he heard tell of an island inhabited by creatures of myth and legend openly. Having a full cargo hold of goods to trade, plenty of stocked food and drink and nothing else to lose, he turned his rudder towards the island of Berk.
FAMILY: His mother is Sfiyah bint Ali (bint is 'daughter of'). His father is Salah ibn Reyhan. He is an only child and sails alone.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Ifrit uses twin iron kilij (scimitars) without a use of a shield. He wears a small iron dagger in his boot and another behind his back on his belt.
FIGHTING STYLE: Ifrit has a very quick fighting style and moves very fluidly. Wearing as light of cloth as he can get away with means he can move fast but if something hits him it will do infinitely more damage.
