Time and Date: Late evening on a cool december night Wheather: Cool and light snowfall; beautiful view of full moon and stars with only a few clouds rolling by Extra: Will be a backstory for a character soon to come when I pass 25 posts..but also just to have fun with a favorite character from httyd.
The soft chill ran through the heavy coat Scout had upon her body as the two of them were heading up the mountain; an ergent request to rid of a nucense was put up for a fairly high price...and any high price Scout was willing to take for the boat in the making. There was no news of what was up there in the mountains; all those who reported were blabering about a spiked headed beast trying to get to them...then gloating how fast they were. Borea huffed her frosty breath; unchallenged by the cold around her, she was most happy and content in the snow..but Scout was a different reason why she was a bit cautious, even if she were dressed properly.
Rockhead sighed as a large blast of snow hit him in the chest. He didn't want to be out here, but he had had an odd feeling earlier that he should head up the mountain and listened to it. Luckily he had dressed properly for the weather, but he still didn't like being out in such coldness. Climbing proved to be a bit difficult. He didn't have much skill in climbing, but his lovely dragon was there to help him.
Rose followed Rockhead from behind, ready at any second to catch or help him. The cold didn't effect her much, so she was able to ignore it. She quickly moved her nose under Rockhead's foot when it slipped on a rock for a second. "Thanks, Rose," he said and kept climbing. She gave a happy purr. She wanted to give him a lick, but she knew it would only make him colder.
As Rockhead climbed, he made several direction changes. Unknowingly, they were heading towards Scout and Borea, soon to be in view, but below them.
(L L L L L L L L L L L L L L L. Not too bad for a first try a? XP)
Borea's haulted for a moment and sniffed the air; her frost breath carrying out more frost into the air as she smelled another pair nearby...and a familiar scent of a predator. The Crystil arched her back and snorted heavily, not liking the circumstances of smelling a nightmare up here. Scout on the other hand had no idea what Borea's was concerned about; she hopped off her dragons slightly moldy saddle and went to the front. "Whoa girl, It's ok! No need to flip...what's wrong?" She put her hand to Borea's muzzle, but it didn't work much. Just getting a chest full of clumpy frost stuck to her fur coat was covering almost her whole body.
Scout wandered a little ways from Borea who stayed put out of fear; coming to hear soft footsteps in the distance. "Who's there?" She called out; her hand close to her blade just to be ready.
"Who's there?" Rockhead and Rose froze in their traces as they heard a voice. "What was that?" he asked. Rose huffed and sniffed the air, picking up the scent of another human and....something else she wasn't sure of. She growled and stared in the direction she smelled the other human. Rockhead tilted his head and asked, "Everything ok, Rose?" "No. I smell a human ahead," she replied quickly, not moving. Rockhead looked in the direction she was looking and called out, "Who's there!?" He tried to take some steps forward to see who it was, but Rose grabbed the back of his coat and held him back, growling. He sighed and let her do so.
Rose then took several steps forward to try to get closer to the human they had heard. She wanted to be very cautious, since she didn't recognize the second scent she picked up and was a bit worried what it was or what it could be. Rockhead hung from her mouth by the back of his coat and waited in interest to see who it was. Both stared through the snow, waiting to see who was there.
Scout stopped once the nightmare came onto view and sighed out as she saw the trainer in it's mouth also looking quite curious. "Thankgoodness...I almost thought you were a hylian. Thank Thor your not." Scout looked to the nightmare; that's why her dragon was flipppin out.
"I never expected to see anyone else up here after the reports of the rogue dragon...or for a Nightmare to come up here..you two are very brave." She had to speak a bit louder as the winds were starting to really pick up now and it got harder to hear and see. Now there was only one problem left...how to get Borea to come without being a tottal whimp over the other dragon. "May I ask what you two are up here for? Did you get curious of the mystery beast reports?"
Rockhead simply chuckled as he saw the other viking. Rose grunted, a bit upset, but relieved it was just a human. "Brave?" Rockhead shook his head, not believe they were so, it was more like a act of stupidity, "Well thank you, but we just came here because...I really just had a strong felling to come." Rockhead made his way over to Scout and held out his hand to shake. Rose stood right behind him, watching Scout, just in case she would make any wrong moves. Sure, she was human, but Rose knew there were bad human. Rockhead, on the other hand, pretty much trusted this new human at first sight. Rose couldn't help but roll her eyes a bit when he held out his hand to shake. "Just be careful.." she said quietly, even where Rockhead could barely hear. She loved and cared deeply about him.
"I'm Rockhead, but you may call me Rocky for short, plus, I like being called that," Rockhead said with a friendly smile, "and did you say something about a mystery beast?" Rose frowned at the mention of a mystery beast. She looked over at Borea, noticing her, and tilted her head a bit in curiosity.
"There's been word of a dragon attacking vikings around these areas. A reward to chase off or capture the dragon is set and I aimed to snatch that reward for something I've been working on. But I hope this dragon isn't to difficult..before I came up here a storm was just rolling in..if such events like that happen" She turned back to see Borea completly froze where she stood.
"Oh, forgot to mention this...This is Borealis; she's a Crystilscale Dragon...and their very fearful of Nightmares..so pardon her behavior around your lovely dragon." Borea moved her head to the sound of her full name and shook her head in responce, just never took her eyes off the nightmare. Her back was slightly arched and nervous pawing in the snow was shown and heard with the soft crunch of her weight. Her long paddle of a tail swished lightly in the snow, occasionally brushing against Scout's back.
"Oh? I had not heard of this. But...it must have fate that we crossed paths here, so if you don't mind, Rose and I will gladly assist you. And I'm very sorry about Borealis. She's very beautiful and I'm sure they could get along. Rose is very friendly. It's up to you if you would like us to come with you," Rockhead said and put his hand down. He chuckled at Borea's movements. "Is she ok?" he asked, thinking it was silly and adorable.
Rose blushed a bit at Scout's comment. Then she starred at Borea, wondering what was wrong with her and if she was hurt. She tilted her head a bit and ask Borea, "Are you alright? What's up with you? Do I really scare you?" Rose grinned with the last question, finding it amusing if she really did scare her. It made her feel stronger and better, knowing that she was feared by yet another dragon. She loved being known as a tough, fearful dragon by other dragons. Though she knew, there were many other dragons, more fearful than her, and even ones she feared. But she decided to forget about them and enjoy this moment.
Borea didn't make much effort to react except in words, "Every Crystil fears Nightmares...they prey on our young when they haven't gained their frost breath."Her back spines rattled softly to shake off the access snow pilling on her scales; her legs however were untouched by the snow from the soft fur padding that helped her with snow, water and ice.
"I'd love to have company, best to do with company then to go alone, you may join us...just don't worry about Borea. I think she can get over this species fear." Scout looked back up to Borea and climbed back on the saddle when Borea's knelt her front leg as a step-up. The saddle was cold and damp with snow, making it uncomfortable to sit on. "Are you ready Rocky?"
Rose felt horrible hearing what Borea had said. She lowered her head a bit in shame and was at a loss for words. All she could do was give Borea a saddened and apologetic look. She herself, had never done that or known about Nightmare's doing it. She hadn't even heard of a Crystil till now.
Rockhead grinned when Scout got on Borea. He walked around to Rose's neck and ran his hand down her neck to her shoulder. "Care to give me a ride Rose?" he asked. She simply nodded, still saddened. Rockhead noticed her behavior, and was going to say something but figured he would do it later. He climbed onto her neck, which lowered a bit for him, and got set on the saddle. "Aye, I am ready," he said and smiled, "Lead the way to this beast. Oh and don't worry, Rose and I don't care to get part of the reward. It's all for you."
"I'm sorry," Rose softly said as she slowly walked up next to Borea. She shivered bit, not very used to saying that and being a bit cold. "I hope...that we can be friends," she added with a sad sigh.
Borea's still had her caution about Rose. "Just don't take a bite outa me and that'll be a start." The great Crystil swerved her body as they began off walking higher up the mountain; the air became thinner and a bit hard to fully breath..the storm stayed the same; cold and windy, distant flashes of lightening could be seen. Now Scout was all glued eyed to the storm; she loved when Thor created these beautiful events..and this one was all new to her. Borealis on the other hand, could care less about the storms. She wasn't so fond of this lightening...it seemed different than normal storm lightening. "This doesn't feel right too me...this lightening is not natural.."
Rose smiled a bit, finding Borea's comment fairly funny. She then followed Borea, staying close but keeping a bit of a distance to not make Borea uncomfortable. When the storm came up, she got shivers that ran from her neck to the tip of her tail. She HATED storms. From getting wet to the annoying lightning, she just hated them. She huffed and noticed the lightning was a bit different. "How do you know? I see it's different but....I don't know as much about storms as you probably do," she said in a slightly upset voice, "Can you tell if it's going to rain?"
Rockhead stared at the lightning. He loved the beauty of the light and enjoy the power of the sound that the thunder made soon after. Unlike Rose, he didn't really mind a storm. But when Borea said something about the lightning, he got a bit concerned and held onto Rose's neck, wanting to stay close to her. "Hey Scout, why is the lighting different? Borea says it isn't natural..."
Feeling Rockhead wrap his arms around her neck, Rose purred slightly, almost forgetting about the storm. She smirked a bit and continued to follow Borea towards the storm.
Scout was quite puzzled but very fascinated by the storm; it was no mistake why some called her the 'storm-chaser', her passion for Thor's mighty power in weather was all but overpowering in her mind. "Well..Lightening has all types of differences in strike patterns, colors and the amount that Thor uses in each bolt; I've watched, chased and frolicked through every storm that's come to Berk...but this one is concentrated at one particular area..I wouldn't be surprised if there's either metal...or a dragon causing it." Borea grunted at Scout's last guess, "No...if we see one of those I'm bolting!' Her tail whipped furiously and breath of frost became stronger, collecting no her front paws in a layer of ice. Scout patted Borea's big shoulder, feeling her fingers through the soft feathery pelt that covered her appendages and chest. "Your just scared of the unknown..Even if it is a Skrill we won't get to close...only I will." Scout walked further up to the top of a overhang in the mountain, the lightening seemed to be fixed there the most; but poor Borealis was inching with her head down to the snowy earth, fearful of what they would see.
Rose nuzzles Borea's shoulder trying to comfort her, though nervous herself at the mention of a Skrill. Boy did she HATE those dragons. She knew how dangerous they were and worried for Rockhead's safety. She knew he would try to befriend it, and if it's mean, it would take the chance to hurt him. She wouldn't let that happen and decided to make sure he doesn't get too close, IF a Skrill was the thing causing the storm. "Don't worry. Whatever it it is, we will face it together and be able to overcome anything," she said softly and looked at Borea, "As friends...I hope. Oh and you're very, very soft."
Rockhead chuckled and grinned. "I hope it's metal! That would be great for Rose and I. We would have a great supply and maybe even have enough to build Rose some armor and me a better sword. But is that really what you think it is? The dangerous beast and storm causer could possibly be just a Skrill?" he asked while looking at Scout. He had calmed down, liking dragons and not afraid of many. Seeing a Skrill and even befriending one was something he now looked forward to.
"It seems as if a Skrill is the cause but we have no proof till we see exactly the cause of the storm. I've always had a fascination to Skrill..but sadly I became close friends with a scardy scale!" She pointed toward Borealis who was grunting her way with the comment she made. Borea's thanked Rose for the better comment..even if she didn't quite understand...her skin wasn't soft...was Rose referring to her personality? Or see her as a soft soul? Scout beckoned Rocky and Rose to follow quietly as she snuck her head up to the edge of the overhang to see what was up top; it was still a bit hard to see through the thick Snow Storm...but it was clear to see what was atop..
And all in behold what they all saw was what was predicted; a great dark bluish Skrill with yellowish eyes peering out into the storm; not directly at them..but quite close. It's full body curled up in a sleeping position, but it's head and frill spikes were prominent and alert to the noises it was hearing with the middle head spikes appearently missing from an old battle scar...It could hear them through the Storm...and it wasn't going to take intruders likely..no matter what their intentions were. This beast had large Reddish Orange wing's and orange marking across it's body and a yellowish belly; quite the sight to see.
