OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Aria is the kind of person that prefers to spend time figuring out strategies and new ways to tackle things then really take a part in violent acts. She'll only resort to violence if there's absolutely no other option or if something she holds dear is put in harm's way. She's fairly quiet for a Viking and doesn't like to be too loud about anything. She's shy and reserved in a sense, but once you get her talking on a subject she favors then you'll be able to get her to start talking. She's grown quite knowledgeable about the Skrill and could probably talk someone's ear off about them all day. She doesn't do well in large groups and feels more comfortable with a group of one or two people. She's fairly smart, (for a viking anyway) and believes in karma.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: She is a lithe, slender girl with shoulder length blond hair and a swath of hair that always seems to find its way back to her face. She possesses somewhat of an oval face and has stormy grey eyes. She wears very light armor over a brown fabric shirt and hide boots lined with sheep wool keep her feet and legs warm. She fashioned a little wooden thunderbolt from wood and it is tied to a leather strip bracelet, a charm that symbolizes Zapfang.
HISTORY:
Aria was born to Louse Lionsclaw and Cecilia Lionsclaw, two very loving Viking parents yet they could never quite get the hang of the whole dragon riding business. Of course dragon riding had been a part of Berk's history for more than three centuries, the couple just preferred to do mild little tasks around the village and earn their keep. The only dragon they actually kept in their house was a moody old Terrible Terror by the name of Onetooth as he only had one tooth and he didn't do too much.
Eventually the couple gave birth to a baby girl and they decided to name her Aria for her mother seemed to think that a baby screaming like a banshee was a melodious sound. Little Aria once she was old enough to walk and babble took to old Onetooth even though the little mischievous raggedy thing didn't want her company at all. It wasn't long after watching their daughter play with their doorstopper of a dragon that they realized that the girl actually loved dragons, and here they thought that she would dislike them as they weren't exactly big fans of them, (more or less afraid of the bigger dragons)
At the age of thirteen it came time for Aria to begin dragon training, and not in the old sense of learning to fight dragons, but to learn to work alongside dragons. The lithe, frail looking girl didn't even bat an eye when she came face to face with dragons such as the Deadly Nadder or the Monstrous Nightmare. While she learned about the different techniques and dispositions of the dragon it came time for her to pick a dragon of her own she realized that none of the dragons 'felt right' to her. They were amazing and how their own fancy little quirks, but it just didn't feel right. And so every day she would go home, still not being able to find the perfect dragon for herself.
A year later the viking began to explore the woods just outside of Berk and would make her little 'stroll in the woods' a daily occurrence. She would often go 'dragon watching' and watch the dragons go about their day by day lives although she never strayed too close to the truly wild dragons as they did not take kindly to human contact. However, something forced this girl to come out of her shell as she stumbled upon a dragon in desperate need of help. Near the shore a dragon had fallen and upon first glance the Viking though the black dragon, a Skrill, was dead, killed by another dragon in some silly territorial dispute. Upon closer inspection she realized that the dragon was indeed breathing but one of it's wings had been badly injured. "You poor thing." The woman had said, temporarily forgetting that Skrills were highly aggressive. As she ignorantly reached forward to inspect the injured wing the Skrill awoke and covered it's body in a wave of static electricity, scaring the girl out of her wits, yet she didn't run back home. Not quite yet.
While the Skrill was immobilized and unable to fly, the Viking would sneak away with a portion of her dinner and slip out to return to the shore at night. Mind you, her parents didn't particularly favor big dragons so she didn't go babbling about the wild Skrill she had found. The dragon would refuse the majority of the food the woman offered him, (tossing it to him from a distance) and then after days of failure she threw a slab of mutton to him and the dragon accepted it once she had looked away. It turned out the dragon favored mutton above else. With a grin the Viking girl would continue to bring the dragon mutton, (this was also her favorite food go figure) and would sit at a distance, chatting up a one sided conversation with the dragon even though he didn't seem to care all that much. Without the Viking girl to stand careful guard over the dragon while he was immobilized, he may as well have died to starvation. "Everything will be alright." She had told the dragon as she inched forward, only to receive a nasty warning growl from the dragon yet the static didn't roll off his scales as fiercely. With a smile the woman kept her distance, respecting the dragon's personal bubble. One night she fell asleep out on the shore, completely forgetting that she was in the presence of a dragon that would probably sooner kill someone then let them sleep. The Skrill's wounds had mended to the point to where he could take flight and while the woman slumbered he glanced at her for one good long moment before taking off into the night.
It wasn't until two years later that the young viking would find something that would change her life forever. She had learned about many dragons at the school, but there were only so many there at any given time for the dragon riders in training to view one on one. One day the fifteen year old decided that she would go for a stroll in the woods, although going out into the woods seemed a bit stupid at the time now that she thinks back on the situation.
As she was preparing to visit a nearby creek she heard something in the woods and was soon faced with a Monstrous Nightmare that looked as though he had a bone to pick with just about anyone who crossed his path. Perhaps the dragon was simply defending its territory or some unseen family, Aria didn't know, all she knew was that the dragon looked at her with angry eyes and made a run straight for her jaws agape, scales aflame.
Just as she thought she'd kiss her sweet simple life goodbye, the sky darkened and was filled with dark clouds. Yet no rain followed the clouds that appeared the only thing apparent was the sound of lightning and soon a black silhouette dove from the skies revealing it's strength with beams of lightning instead of fire and it did not hesitate to challenge the Monstrous Nightmare to a fight, but perhaps the dragon thought it was too great a risk to whatever it was defending and the Nightmare fled back to wherever it had came from.
The young viking looked on at the beast in awe, and then she realized that she recognized the Skrill for his all black scales. It was the same Skrill that she had helped a year in the past, had the dragon been watching over her? "You saved me.." The viking had said to the dragon who had long since landed and was looking at the woman, static rolling off of his scales as the dark clouds cleared gradually. Without even thinking that the day the viking had held up a shaky hand and the wild creature of lightning had stepped forward, the good deed that the Viking had done to the dragon had been repaid. They were now even yet the Skrill felt compelled to stay and pressed his muzzle into the woman's hands and to the Viking's surprise, she didn't receive a shock.
After that incident although she had been saved by the Skrill, Aria has kept her fear of Monstrous Nightmares and fire, she prefers to keep to her dragon and would take lightning and thunder over raging flames anyway. She has named her dragon, Zapfang a very likable name. Although her dragon refuses to trust others, the two have formed a nearly inseparable pair that would stop at nothing to protect one another.
Over the course of the next four years the dragon and rider pair learned each other's faults and fears, and realized that they shared something in common. People were a bit surprised to see the Viking return to the Academy with a Skrill of all things, they had expected the woman to choose one of the Academy dragons eventually, something simple like a Nadder. Zapfang and Aria would work on their abilities with one another and the first obstacle they had to overcome was the riding portion of it all. Zapfang looked at a saddle suspiciously as though it would bring home some kind of harm. The first thing the Viking wondered was whether the dragon would try to shock her through flight. As she stepped forward with the hide saddle, the dragon hissed and arched his wings announcing his disgust. "Okay, we won't do that then." The woman had said and dropped the object which received a curious, judgmental glance from the dragon.
The Viking didn't see any problem in attempting to ride the dragon without a saddle, people did it all the time. She didn't fancy complicated saddles in the first place. And so she approached the dragon and ran her hand along the scales of his face which caused the dragon to lower his head and in one smooth move she hopped up right onto the dragon's neck and the dragon took off without warning. One thing was for sure, the Skrill was a lot of dragon as he zipped around the Academy. The dragon zipped in speedy circles until the woman tapped the left of his neck which prompted a sharp left turn, which received a 'wow' from the Viking rider.
The dragon responded to the gentlest of aids from the woman's hands and she'd only need to utter to land to get the dragon to land, which called for a smile from the woman, quite giddy that her first time on her dragon had been so exciting. She had never felt so free, so alive. The pair would continue working on their flying skills and learning to work as one instead of separate individuals, as what was a team when they worked separately? Four years later the pair are still working on their training as hard as ever, keeping themselves and focusing on the thrill of the flight.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Dagger
FIGHTING STYLE: Prefers to use stealth to her advantage and sneak up on her foes, a bit of a trickster when it comes to fighting. Prefers to use her hands in fights to her dagger as she doesn't like to resort to harmful violence, (yet her dragon may have another opinion on the matter)
DRAGON NAME: Zapfang
DRAGON TYPE: Skrill / Striker Class
DRAGON APPEARANCE: Typical size for a Skrill with a large wingspan and spikes along his back and tail. A black scaled dragon with a grey scaled underbelly and leathery scaly wings with grey undertones.
DRAGON PERSONALITY: Zapfang has a bit of a temper towards others and demands respect from strangers. He's strictly a one woman dragon and rarely lets others come very close to him. He has a fierce loyalty for his dragon rider, Aria. He'd sooner take a dagger to the heart then allow his rider to get in harm's way. To her, he is friendly and goofy even yet around others? One can easily meet the true definition of a ruthless Skrill when he is angered. Around others is wary and moody and it would be wise not to come to close (especially if he doesn't trust you) as you might receive a nasty static shock from his scales. Another interesting fact is that Zapfang has a fear of swimming as his lightning is useless when underwater.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES:
Attacks with beams of lightning rather than fire
Can ride lightning bolts to gain speed
Can absorb and store lightning
