Andradil the Carver
Name: Andradil (Andy)
Play-By Alexander Skaarsgard
Age: 23
Occupation: Wood-carver
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Straight with bi-curious tendencies
Personality
Andradil is a rather average man in the viking world, all things considered. He's friendly to those who are friendly and has no problems copping an attitude with those who are of a less savory persona. He prefers to make pleasantries with those who come seeking his work, but as any good business man he is a wicked haggler.
His job has brought about a certain amount of respect, as he is talented with anything made of wood from bows and arrows to decorative pieces. He has been known to travel a long way for rarer woods for those willing to pay the cost for his efforts, and are often rewarded with splendid craftsmanship and detail-oriented work. He tries to observe those who pay good coin for his wares and makes each requested piece with a little customization for the bearer.
In non-work related situations he can be a little awkward, not always able to strike up a conversation. His sentences can come off as a little disjointed, though many don't seem to mind. His real strength lies with a little hard drink in his system, when he will pick up one of his hand-crafted instruments and play out a little tune. Guitars and pipes(flutes) are his forte, though he has had some practice with the drums and even the harp- you do have to know something at least a little to make it right?
- LIKES: Haggling, exploration, drink, music
- DISLIKES: Sober conversation, cheapskates, thieves, poorly crafted items
- STRENGTHS: Detailed handiwork, friendly personality
- WEAKNESSES: A little awkward in conversation, good drink, pretty ladies
- FEARS: Creepy-crawlies (Things with more than 8 legs, like centipedes), making a bad weapon, loosing his ability to carve
- AMBITIONS: To make a new and unique weapon, to discover a better weapon-wood, make the best weapons he can, befriend a dragon
- SECRETS: Dragons make him nervous (though he isn't afraid of them), some woods really aren't that hard to find
Physical Description:
Andradil is tall, as seems to be the viking norm, standing at a healthy 6'4". He isn't as muscular as many like to tote around, but his work chopping trees and splitting wood- as well as the travels to find the good stuff- have given his body more of a lean toning. His legs are a bit long for his frame, giving him a longer stride and the grace of a well-bred horse. He appears as young as he is, keeping his facial hair in check. It is often seen as only a dense stubble, as he finds a beard to be rather cumbersome when trying to put a fine detail- like the curve of a grip- into his work.
His hair is a dirty blonde in color, falling somewhere between his chin and shoulders depending on how long it's been since he's had it trimmed. He rarely pulls it back in any sort of braid, but on the rare occasion it is not falling free a simple horse-tail at his neck does the trick. His eyes are the gray-blue of a stormy sea, and as expressive as the water they mimic. It is usually not difficult to determine Andy's mood from looking into his eyes. The only time he can pull a poker face is when haggling a price for his wares.
When dressing himself he tends to go rather plain. When out and about a simple chain vest covers his usual gray tunic and black vest, a brown leather belt is always slung across his hips and outfitted with whatever things he needs for his current task. Everything from swords and daggers to chisels and axes can be seen dangling from his waist. Simple studded leather bands cover his wrists, fire hardened to make them more resistant to striking or bites from those pesky little Terrible Terrors. He also owns a wolf-skin cape which he often wears when going on long journeys for warmth.
History:
Andradil was born and raised in Berk. Fed wonderful stories of their history, of Hiccup and Toothless flying into battle. While most children were more fascinated with the idea of Nightfury dragons and the possibility of some day flying astride one, Andy found himself more enthralled with the idea of the contraption Hiccup had built for Toothless's damaged tail. Of course he had seen the occasional viking who had lost a limb to battle or accident and the prosthetic limbs that had been made for him and decided that was what he wanted to do when he grew up- working with wood.
To vikings, wood is almost as valuable as metal. They make their homes, their tables, almost everything out of wood! Metal was much harder to work with and required much more time and effort, so as such wood was the commonly turned to material when one needed something made. And she he spent his time hovering about the woodcarving shops, asking questions as little children to about the tools and what they did and why this wood not that wood. Often times he was shooed away so that the carvers could work. On occasion, however, one would sit and talk with him as one does a child of 8 or 9, and explained to him the things he asked. What no one thought he was doing though was retaining that information. And retaining he was.
Not long after he began his dragon-training he found himself whittling away at little hunks of discarded wood the carvers allowed him to run off with. They were crude, to say the least, but usually recognizable for whatever dragon they represented. But he kept his musings hidden, afraid his dragon-training father would disapproved that he didn't wish to follow in family tradition. Then one day it happened, one day his mother went to wash his laundry when a little wooden Nightfury tumbled from his pocket.
That afternoon when he returned home from class he found the trinket sitting on the dining room table with his father sitting near it, as it studying it. He stammered, trying to find a way to explain the doodling to his father who rumbled his amused laugh and patted him on the head. "It's about time you took up an apprenticeship, I suppose." was all his father had to say about it. And that very next week he was in the shop with the carvers, learning all there was to know about the craft.
By the age of 18 he was a skilled carver, making weapons on his own and even taking commissions on the side. By 20 he had opened up his own little shop, build with his own hands where there was available space. Now the place has doubled in size and wares of all woods and shapes are sold there. Carvings, decorative fixtures, and practical tools and weapons side-by-side. A few of his personal, detailed weapons and instruments hang behind the counter as an example for any who wish to commission his wares.
Weapon of Choice: Long bow, made from the yew tree with a preference for ash arrows. Uses dual long daggers (comparable to the japanese Kodachi)
Fighting Style: Prefers distance fighting with a long bow from higher ground, though against hostile dragons this is difficult. For hand-to-had he dual wields medium length dagger-swords with swooping motions and harsh blocks as he is not overly proficient with them.
