NAME: Eira
Nyström
AGE: sixteen
OCCUPATION: viking-in-training
GENDER & SEXUALITY: female ; heterosexual
LIKES: Enjoys adventuring and exploring, tracking people and dragons, helping individuals in need, and feeling like she has power over people.
DISLIKES: Does not like materialistic people, unreasonable quarrels, people not able to think for themselves, control freaks, heat, and liars.
STRENGTHS: Able to think through situations with ease, works well under pressure, very skilled with a bow, usually able to avoid meaningless squabbles, and courageous in nearly every situation.
WEAKNESSES: Refuses to believe she is wrong, passive aggressive when mad or upset, avoids feelings rather than confronts them, always questionable of others' intentions, and occasionally reckless.
FEARS: Scared of crowds, ridicule, punishment, being stared at, caring for others too much, and becoming a person she doesn't want to be.
AMBITIONS: Discover an unknown place, befriend a rare dragon,
become the most skillful viking with a bow, and to help people focus on real issues.
SECRETS: Eira has a secret "hideout" about halfway up Claw Peaks. It's a cave with an entrance that's barely visible and barely tall enough to stand straight in, but she still finds pride in it as she discovered it herself. She keeps supplies hidden there and doesn't tell anybody about it. Eira also used to be the kind of person to look down on others for caring too much about one certain person thinking of it as a weakness, but lately she's also been experiencing attraction to people, and it confuses her to no end. She prefers to act nonchalant about it, but usually ends up coming off as awkward. Also, a lot of her skill with her bow was acquired from training with an outsider unknown to the other Berkians. Eira found no reason to not trust the outsider, so never found a reason to tell the others about her. Eira was fourteen when she had last seen the outsider, so she doesn't think much of it now.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Eira has been considered a bit of a tomboy, always trying to be one of the guys and not wanting to seem weak among them. She has always enjoyed rough housing and running around with them, although lately she's began to find herself being somewhat attracted to them and avoiding them more and more. She can have trouble getting along with the more girly vikings, but lucky for her there aren't many when it comes to the VITs. She believes that she is always right, and even once she knows she's wrong she doesn't like to admit it. She's stubborn and obstinate. Although she tends to disagree with people, she can easily talk her way out of situation and avoid unnecessary fights. Eira has skills for surviving and knows it, some of her favorite activities are exploring and adventuring. She loves to track people and dragons, just to prove that she can do it more than anything. Sometimes her knowledge of these skills can get to her head, and she becomes a bit reckless. She is quick-witted, but when she believes what she's doing is right that can get her into sticky situations pretty fast. She faces these situations with courage, although this could someday get her into trouble.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Eira is a skinny but well-muscled teenager. She has a round face, slightly crooked teeth, and an upturned nose. She has a smile that lights up her face, outlined by thin, pink lips. She has a wide forehead and a chin that juts out, giving a point to her round face. Her slightly narrow eyes are a cloudy gray-blue color that stands out against her pale skin. She stands at an average height of 5'6. Her defining feature is her fiery red hair that hangs in a tangle of curls.
PLAY BY: Rose Leslie
HISTORY: Eira was born on a stormy summer night. The storm had been raging on all night, causing floods and damage. The dragons and vikings were in a fit, storms weren't near as common on Berk as snow or a blizzard. Once a break in the storm finally came, Eira was born. Her parents, Sylvi and Hackett Nyström then named her Eira, meaning merciful.
Eira was always a stubborn child, and although usually smart, she still refused to believe she could ever be wrong. Sylvi always expected Eira to grow to love farming, as it was the family's business. Eira didn't show much affection towards the sheep, and Hackett noted to his wife that Eira had always shown more interest in the dragons that scared their sheep and oxen. Sylvi agreed, and the couple then decided that Eira would go into training once old enough.
The next few years, Eira matured and became what she thought of as a good viking. Neither of her parents had been dragons riders or much for fighting, so of course she wasn't actually that decent at all. She did however have skill in venturing out, following others, and remaining stealthy.
When following a group of vikings up Claw Peaks one day, she realized halfway up the mountain how dangerous it was and how fast she needed cover once the vikings stumbled upon a monstrous nightmare's nest of eggs. That was when Eira discovered her hideout. Since then, she has moved in supplies such as sleeping bags, lanterns, a small spare dagger, and extra clothes.
Once she turned thirteen, her parents enrolled her into dragon training and she quickly grew to love it. She's extremely knowledgeable in the behavior of different types of dragons and their usual temperaments. After reading books about so many different dragons and knowing so much, one of her dreams is to someday soon find and befriend a rare dragon, one she doesn't know as much about.
After being in training for a while, it was quickly obvious she wasn't as skilled as the others when it came to fighting. She could hold her own with a sword, but she never got out unscathed and her fighting style was a bit sloppy. Her father suggested she try ranged weapons, and after some searching she managed to get her hands on a bow. It wasn't much, but she liked it better than the sword she had previously used. She decided to take it to her hideout in Claw Peaks one day, which is where she came in to contact with an older female outsider. She was scarred and appeared daunting, but she made no move to hurt Eira once they saw each other. She eyed the bow in the young VIT's hand, and made a snide comment about how Eira could probably barely pull the string back. Eira aimed for a tree, missed by a few feet, and tried again until finally the outsider told Eira what she was doing wrong. The outsider trained Eira in exchange for a place to stay. Eira allowed the woman to stay in the hideout, and for months the woman coached her. One day Eira showed up, and the woman was gone. All of Eira's supplies remained, and the only trace of the woman was an arrowhead she had left and the word "thanks" written in the dirt. Eira didn't think too much of it, although she was a bit hurt that there had not been a warning. Now she doesn't think much of it, and when she does remember it she dares not tell the others, fearing they'll think she's an idiot for housing an outsider.
Now Eira works hard in her training, still always working with her bow to try and be the most skillful viking with the bow. She's always searching in vain for a rare dragon, although lately her search has come to a pause. She tries to fit in with the other VITs, although she's always trying to keep them at arms-length. She tends to get lonely at times, but her emotions scare her more than the loneliness does.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Eira prefers an average bow, but can also be seen using a simple iron sword.
FIGHTING STYLE:
With her bow, Eira uses stealth to her advantage. She remains out of sight while she strikes. When fighting with a sword, Eira rushes into battle. Although not the best idea, Eira is quick-witted and able to hold her own.
