Okay, I hope I've done this right! Let me know otherwise xD
NAME: Dania Norup
AGE: 18
OCCUPATION: Dragon Rider, Hunter
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Female and heterosexual.
LIKES:
- Loves exploring, travelling and sight-seeing in general. It gives her a chance to bond better with her dragon.
- Learning and training is something Dania loves to do. Knowledge is something she craves, and is especially interested in wild dragons.
- Solitude! Dania likes to sit somewhere isolated and simply nap, rest or sit with Frae.
- Rain. Unlike some, Dania enjoys to hear the soothing sound of rain whilst sitting under a tree.
DISLIKES:
- Noise. Dania likes a quiet and controlled atmosphere so she can concentrate on whatever task she is doing.
- Crowds, tight spaces, and anything related. This is because Dania hates being pushed about by people or having little room to move.
- Storms. Although Dania likes the rain, when it becomes too heavy and too noisy it just becomes irritating.
- Dragons that live in water. Something about these dragons make Dania feel uneasy – she most certainly wouldn’t want to go swimming with one.
- The colour yellow. It’s just...ew.
STRENGTHS:
- Using a bow. Dania has been practising for years and she now feels very confident, but despite this, she is still prone to failure.
- Brave, but only when alone or with her dragon. Dania feels powerful when alone, so her bravery steps up a lot.
- Thinks before acting. Dania will not do anything until she has thought it through, and although it is a strength, it is also a weakness (see weaknesses).
- Determined. Once her plan is set in her mind, Dania’s will to complete the task is near unstoppable!
WEAKNESSES:
- Quick tempered. Dania will often fire herself up for absolutely no proper reason.
- Timid and quite unable to keep conversations going. Many years in the woods does this to a Viking, and now, Dania finds it difficult socialising.
- Thinks too much. By the time she has come to a decision about something, it may be too late to act.
- Concentrated. Whilst this is a very good thing, Dania's concentration can be so strong she forgets about anything else - which isn't a very good thing.
FEARS:
- Swimming, because she is always afraid something in the water will take a bite out of her.
- Spiders! Anything with so many legs is not to be trusted in her mind.
- Whispering Death dragons. Who isn’t scared of these? Dania just takes one glance at the beasts (or even drawings!) and starts shaking.
- Falling off her dragon/falling large distances. It is due to this fear of falling that Dania holds on very, very tight to Frae when riding.
AMBITIONS:
- To be a walking Dragon Book. Well, at least near to it. She wants to know all there is to know about the creatures, and will stop at nothing to gain the knowledge she desires.
- Overcome her fear of falling. Dania’s fear often stops her from flying at certain heights, and she feels this is not only irritating for herself, but also for her dragon, who loves the higher altitudes.
- Find a new, unexplored land. This may seem farfetched, but Dania would love nothing more than to say ‘I discovered that!’.
- To become a socialite! Dania would love to be able to talk and talk and never be called ‘boring’ again.
- Train a Tiny Terror. Not exactly the best ambition of all time, but Dania likes to think Frae would like a little friend.
- Learn Dragonese. This way she could speak to ol’ Frae without the need to try and interpret growls and grunts.
SECRETS:
- Really doesn’t like her dragon’s eyes. Feels they should be blue instead of the ‘horrid’ (as Dania describes them) yellow they are.
- Sometimes pretends to act like an animal/dragon to amuse Frae. If any humans knew about this she’d die of embarrassment!
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Dania is most certainly a queer Viking. Whether you could actually call her a Viking or not is questionable. She is gentle, timid and quiet. Nature is her friend, and she craves knowledge instead of power. Odd she may be, she is still a Viking and does show it in one way or another. Her quick, fiery temper is a sight to behold, as is her undefeatable determination. Despite her father’s wishes, Dania enjoys exploring and is a keen dragon researcher. She will track, stalk and study out in the wilderness for days until she is satisfied with the drawings in her little book. Dania is extremely concentrated when need be, and when she’s in the zone on the back of her dragon or at home poring over old sketches, she is quick to snap at anyone or anything which proves to be a disturbance in her space. She is also very, very awkward and finds it difficult to keep conversations going without her saying something silly or hesitating and looking a fool.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Dania is not the most muscular young woman, and is not the tallest, either. Her legs are long and her arms an average length, and a thin figure is prominent. This is often a weakness, for her body lacks the huge, stocky features and muscles that most Vikings use as a powerful defence or offence. This lack of physical power has given her a love and preference for long range weapons. Her hair is fairly long, as it drops down to her mid-back, and is a dark mud-brown hue. Her locks are in-between frizzy and curly, and is definitely thick and difficult to comb, so it is often tied back in a messy braid. Her eyes are a similar brown, but are less dull. As for clothes, Dania almost always wears her trademark belted, short and flexible woollen dress. The thick belt with its massive buckle and the style of the clothing makes it appear to be a short skirt/top combo. This dress has plated shoulders and the lower half below the waist is studded. Her boots are up to her mid lower-leg, and are thick with insulating wool.
HISTORY: Dania’s history is simple, yet not exactly average. She was born on Berk, so she learnt how to train dragons. She was absolutely fascinated by the winged beasts even before training began, so she was one eager student. It was when she was only 6 that she wanted the ‘biggest and bestest dragon ever!’, but she soon changed her mind at the age of 16 and went with any beast that proved to be special to her. Her training period went well, except when learning how to use weapons. Dania always seemed to freeze in fear when the axes, hammers and other melee weapons were brought out, so she tried her hand at a bow. It was difficult at first, but years of concentration and self-training had honed her skill well.
It was at the age of 13 that Dania expressed a real interest in exploring, and her father despised this. He wanted her to stick to either dragon training or hunting, but Dania completely disagreed. But her father did quite humiliate her constantly by reminding her about a particular event that happened after he told her his concerns – how she went swimming to see a different and close patch of land but was chased by a large, fanged fish. Since then, Dania has refused to go swimming out of fear of big fish and sharks – and also of being reminded constantly of being chased by one.
Three years later, at the age of 16 during a fishing trip in the wilderness, Dania heard strange noises coming from deeper in the woods. She assumed it was the distressed calls of a dragon, and oh, how she was correct. It was a galewing – sky blue with tan horns lying upon the ground with its wings folded in and back legs splayed out behind it. The poor creature seemed unable to stand up, and Dania’s love of nature kicked in. The tiny catches from her fishing was enough to prove to the dragon she was no threat, and gave her enough time to assess what had happened. It soon became evident that the creature had undergone an awful landing, crashing into trees and then the ground. The poor dragon’s left wing and left back leg had broken bones and many cuts upon its body. Over the next few days, Dania fed it and helped provide as much help as she could, and those days became weeks, and weeks became months. The dragon was well again before she knew it, and by that time, the two had become fairly close.
So that day when the galewing could fly once more, Dania named her Frae (a name from one of her mother’s stories) and began training her. Over the next three years to the present, Dania and Frae have become inseparable and spend nearly all their time together.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Simple, yet intricately carved-into bow. Many little markings have been drawn into it using a hunting knife out of boredom on hunts. This hunting knife is always sharpened and rarely used, unless an enemy comes too close.
FIGHTING STYLE: Out of the way, out of the fray! Dania likes to hide and stay out of sight with her bow and take out an enemy or hunting target from afar to reduce chances of having to fight with her knife. But when she does have to use her fists or blade, she’s quick and constantly dodging, and will most likely try and get afar again. The further away she is from a threat, the safer she is and the more she can concentrate on destroying said threat.
DRAGON NAME: Frae
DRAGON TYPE: Galewing
DRAGON APPEARANCE: COLOUR reference. Not her physical appearance, its just to show her colours!
Seemingly designed for the sky, Frae is slender, long with slim limbs that can tuck easily under her body for a fast and easy flight. Her wings stretch right out, and seem to make her body look miniscule when outstretched. When standing tall, Frae is almost as tall as one and a half horses, but her long neck makes up almost all this height. With her neck hung straight horizontal, the height is about as much as a large pony. Her tail makes up half her body length, being the length of almost two horses, and is often trodden on by careless others. Her muzzle is long and triangular, and adorning the top of her skull, neck and spine are short yet thin spines of a tan hue. Her head then has two thicker horns of the same colour cresting out on both cheeks, and in-between these horns are little sheep-like ears. The scales that adorn her entire body are a sky-blue, with darker blue mottling on her stomach, lower jaw, tail and feet. The Night Fury-esque tail at the end of her body is the same colour as her body but around the edges of the flaps of skin lie similar darker mottling as her underbelly. The massive wings on either side of her body share this sort of pattern. At the end of each mottled toe on all four feet lie silvery claws that are short yet very strong, and also quite sharp. Set facing slightly forward upon her skull are two very bright golden-yellow eyes, the pupils of which can constrict and expand like a cat’s.
DRAGON PERSONALITY: Frae is quite the timid creature, and is generally very quiet unless stressed or afraid. She is often hiding if Dania is not nearby, and when she is, she follows like a trained hound. When alone with Dania, Frae turns into a playful kitten of a dragon, and loves nothing more than to fly and watch her trainer sketch what’s around her. Even if she is a quiet creature, Frae will immediately leap to Dania’s defence should need be, as she is very protective and extremely loyal. She is also quite the curious dragon, and will try and stay hidden whilst spying on whatever catches her interest. Although she is playful and quite friendly, she is in no way competitive. Frae is almost submissive, and is never too worried about winning or being the best.
DRAGON TECHNIQUES:
- Her first line of defence lies with her powerful, massive wings. Frae will use these flaps of skin to create huge gusts of wind which can blow many Vikings off their feet (and stun larger enemies).
- If wind power fails, then teeth and claw comes next. Frae’s fangs and claws aid her in melee should her wings fail to help.
-If all else fails, then her icy breath can provide a last attempt at victory. This chilling blast costs much of her energy, however, and is used very rarely.
