NAME: Vidar the Brash | nickname: Vinnie
AGE: 20
OCCUPATION: Hunter | he is respected by the people of his village for risking his life to get them red meat; however his ranking is fairly low considering there are other hunters with far more skill then him.
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Male | pansexual
LIKES: Inventing games for children in the village | Playing with his dragon | Going to community events | Hunting
DISLIKES: Going on wood/fish collecting duties | Preparing meat for cooking | The amount of trouble his dragon causes for him | Sleeping in late and missing half the day (happens quite regularly)
STRENGTHS: Physical strength | Decent accuracy | Quick on his feet (due to his training) | Can mend broken weapons to a decent standard
WEAKNESSES: Slow thinker | Not all that talented at his job | Reckless | Stubborn and Loudmouthed
FEARS: Water (especially with a fast-flowing current) | Cramped/tight spaces (such as tunnels) | Whispering Deaths (it sounds silly, but his father used to scare him with stories of them burying people alive) | Being abandoned
AMBITIONS: To become a skilled hunter | To marry | To discover new lands | To prove his worth
SECRETS: Has the ability to hypnotise dragons through dancing with fire (doesn't tell anyone 'cause 'dancing is for sissies') | Has an underlying hatred of water (he almost drowned as a child)
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
Typical Viking youth.
Vidar is a loud spoken and hot-headed adolescent that is on his way to becoming a man.
He can be heard arguing with people from a distance due to his lack of volume control, and he has a bad habit of saying his opinions out loud; they're usually distasteful and he has no restraints on saying something unpleasant to someone's face.
He has a compassionate side, unfortunately it only applies to dragons and children under the age of ten, the exception being his family.
He is quite difficult to get along with, surprisingly enough, he is not a 'loner' due to his habit of going to every single social event held, and his ability to enchant children with stories and games.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Vidar stands at just 5'7" (the average man his age would be about 5'7"-6'0")
He is of an average Viking build for his age, but not too stocky; he has decent arm, leg and stomach muscles, he weighs in at roughly 168 pounds (without his clothing) His hair is an unusual colour, it fades from very pale blonde around his crown into a sort of grey-brown colour at the tips and underneath. It is left to grow fairly long (just below his ears) and is wild and has a great deal of volume to it.
His eyes are of a deep aquamarine colour, matching his mothers and his skin is pale, he usually paints a red stripe horizontally across the bridge of his nose. He wears clothes that are almost too strange to fit in, but not quite. He wears a braided dark-brown headband that goes across his forehead and under his fringe and over the back of his hair that his mother made for him, a tight-fitting leather necklace (also made by his mother) that cuts down in a 'V' shape with a light green crystal attached on a ring that Sheepswipe found for him. He has armoured shoulder pads that are covered with still sheep's wool that makes them stick out, he wears a loose-fitting light brown tunic that reaches mid-thigh with a dark brown material belt drawing it in around his hips. He wears a pair of black fur shorts under his tunic as 'trousers constrict his movement whilst hunting' he wears fur-lined clawed arm warmers that are made out of thick brown felt fastened with leather string, they are decorated with small spines on the sides and around the top is fur decoration, the bottoms of the arm warmers are sewn to a plate that has five sharpened metal claws that fastens underneath his palm by a leather strap. He can use these claws for self-defence but they're really on there for decoration.
His boots are made of light-brown leather with the same fur decoration as the arm warmers, around the soles a piece of fur-lined white fabric is strapped to give him a better grip walking through the forest (and they also keep his feet warm) around his left thigh he has a decorated metal band that was a gift from his father, this band matches two others that he has just above his arm warmers (elbow height) that are fashioned out into horns.
HISTORY:
Birthday: 4 December
Place of Birth: Berk
Vidar was born in the Winter snowstorms, it was feared he would die because of the cold however he survived.
His mother (Yngvild) and father (Bjørn) raised him to be kind and a great warrior, however when he failed to pass the Dragon Academy test three times, his father resigned hope of ever taking his son with him to war.
Vidar became a hunter at the age of thirteen, he was the apprentice of a skilled and experienced hunter named Trygve. He was first trained on icy glaciers in the sea, which is how he became agile and fast paced (as it is understandably hard to get good footing on ice)
He was then trained in the forests surrounding the settlement, with his new ability to move quickly and fairy quietly, he was trained to hone his abilities with an axe (after he was proven to be useless with a bow and arrow) he learned in many hard and strenuous months how to throw a double-headed axe and to hit a target at a considerable distance, his ability to hear and smell prey was never as good as the other hunters, so Vidar had to bribe Sheepswipe into helping him out.
When Vidar was fourteen he met Sheepswipe, as her name suggests, when she was caught stealing sheep from their pens and setting them free in the village for entertainment; Vidar (being young and unruly) complimented her on her trickery and she took to him.
It took a long time to earn the dragon's trust, it seems that she was a sucker for flattery, as that was what won her over in the end.
After four months of conversing with the dragon (in poorly spoken Dragonese on Vidar's half) Sheepswipe decided to stay with the young Viking.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Double-Headed Battle-Axe
FIGHTING STYLE: Beserker - when threatened, enraged, desperate or frightened, Vidar has a respected style of fighting, he becomes oblivious to who or what he's fighting and just attacks in blind fury.
DRAGON:
NAME: Sheepswipe
TYPE: Shrieking Glider
APPEARANCE: Sheepswipe is a mustard yellow colour with a few patches of dusty brown on her back and wings. Her eyes are vivid yellow and her claws are jet-black. She is a standard size for her type.
PERSONALITY: In one word: stubborn.
As far as dragons go, she is highly dislikable; she has a foul temper most of the time, and when she doesn't she's moping around the village looking for trouble.
STRENGTHS: She has high endurance (she can carry Vidar flying for extended amounts of time) | She can carry heavy weights (she is capable of lifting her own body weight) | She has high intelligence (however she neglects it, as she chooses to use it to play tricks on other dragons and Vikings)
WEAKNESSES: As mentioned, she is highly dislikable; this causes issues, as being of quite a fragile build and her unwillingness of using her fire, she is almost defenceless when she upsets Vikings and larger dragons then herself. | She is afraid of the dark, which in Vidar's opinion is ridiculous for a dragon. (He is slowly helping her to get over her fear so that he can go for night time flights with her)
