NAME: Hush Ironhide.
AGE: 13.
OCCUPATION: Viking-In-Training, apprentice in tailoring.
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Female and clueless beyond measure.
LIKES:
+ Making things for others. Notes, crafts, meals, she likes the act of creating not only things for others but happiness.
+ Hammocks. She pitches makeshift ones all over the island for lounging pleasure.
+ Soft things, which creates a certain preoccupation with the hair and scales of island inhabitants.
+ The unique and unusual is charming and underappreciated by most, but not by her.
DISLIKES:
- Loud and violent things - so most large Viking gatherings unroot her a little bit. Or a lot a bit.
- Discomfort of any kind, be the origin physical or mental. Goes out of her way to avoid it.
- Open criticism towards others; she is quick to defend them even when there's nothing to defend.
- Scratchy things. Rope, certain kinds of twine, stiff ruffles, anything that is itchy and stiff.
STRENGTHS:
+ Resilient. She may get damaged easily, but she recovers easily as well.
+ Flourishes under praise; eager to please and even hard working if encouraged.
+ Patient as a saint, as the saying goes. She's not one to get wound up over waiting.
+ She's good with a needle and a thread, it's true - she can be handy!
WEAKNESSES:
- Nonathletic and uninterested in becoming so. There are other ways to get a girl's heart to race.
- Oversensitive - she takes things to heart, both towards herself and towards others.
- Avoidant and passive. Good luck getting her to stand up for herself or mention problems.
- Panic hits her before reason does, she locks up and shuts down in emergencies.
FEARS:
- Any trace of anger that she feels is stuffed as deep as it'll go and will deny it if challenged. Doesn't want to be her parents.
- Birds. Up close birds, anyways. Something about those beady eyes isn't trustworthy.
- Separation from her parents and abandonment as a whole. A little clingy underneath it all.
- Being forced into war. The idea of that level of turbulence unsettles her greatly.
AMBITIONS:
+ Enjoy every day the fullest, which is usually translated as taking it easy and slow.
+ To have a normal and mostly happy family, and mend the brokenness in her home.
+ It would be mighty fun to board a ship and go somewhere outside of Berk, a touch of wanderlust.
+ She would like to grow up to be an actual tailor and make everyone feel pretty. Everyone.
SECRETS:
- She doesn't sleep a whole lot because she's always anxious; harbors secret exhaustion.
o Sometimes, just sometimes, she thinks about really getting away from it all and leaving Berk.
+ Has dug a little fortress for herself under a gnarled tree's roots in the forest, it is her literal secret base.
OVERALL PERSONALITY:
She's so soft. There's no arguing that she's a good girl, dainty and quiet in so far as she's never raised her voice as far as anyone knows - there's an edge of shyness to her, sure, but also genuine interest in others and a hunger for company in her idle chatter and strange questions. Hush is obedient and eager to please towards others, even if she very often has unique ways of fulfilling requests; a funny little thing, walking the line of eerily observant and utterly oblivious but never anywhere in between. Her head is in the clouds but her heart is in the right place.
Not only is she apt to find the silver lining but ignores the storm cloud entirely, stubbornly ignoring the unpleasant situations and attitudes she finds in her life. She falls in-like easily and fast, and has stars in her eyes more often than not; if you're looking for someone to romanticize the image of someone, she's your gal for the job. Her optimism is a little bit heartbreaking though, in truth - the reason for her rose colored glasses evident in her quick excuses and flinches to unexpected touch and the strange injuries with inadequate excuses. Conflict shakes her to the core, and she is many more times likely to flight instead of fight - skittish to raised voices and even playful indignation. Abuse. Not that she'd ever admit to it.
Quick to sweep discomfort and distress under the rug, there is sometimes an aftertaste of anxiety or sadness about her when she's alone... something she is sensitive to, and a reason why she seeks out company, even company that doesn't talk a whole lot. Hush is not particularly interested in ambition or prestige so much as enjoying comfort from one minute to the next - a thing which prevents her from living a little. She thrives in comfort, enjoying the outdoors as long as it's comfortable and all the creature-comforts of civilian life and the indoors.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
She looks a little bit like something out of a fairytale, just a little unearthly with her with her unblemished pale skin and gliding step. Whimsical, really. Her black hair tumbles in a bob that goes just past her chin that can and will be styled in any number of ways to suit her desires. There are usually little flowers, intricate beading, cute ribbons, or other feminine accents braided into it to give it a little bit of variety. Her hair serves as a frame to her heart-shaped pixie face and small round lips, and of course her doe-like eyes that are so impressively blue and long-lashed.
Appearances are important to her, and it shows in how well-manicured that she is. Her clothing tends towards the side of light and airy - truly a Viking's attempt at Bohemian wear - certainly she doesn't dress for practicality, though she will nod to beauty and to comfort at any opportunity they're put together. Her body is much like her clothing; more for show than for practical use. She's petite all the way around with feminine curves that are very subtle, with small hands and feet (with well-manicured nails of course) that are more child-sized than adult sized. Her hands are usually tinkering with some sort of artistic creation, and her feet are usually bare no matter what the weather - perhaps the only way she shows any physical constitution.
It's true. She's not got a whole lot of muscle or any other sort of definite fitness, though she's not got too much fat going for her either. Her expressions are most often mild and friendly, and usually encouraged only after breaking her out of one of her dreamy stares into the aether - there's no denying that she spends more time inside her head than outside of it, though she is capable of giving reality attention... sometimes. She's got a voice as soft as the rest of her, and seems to appear and disappear more than come and go. Her "strange" bruises and wounds just don't match up with the rest of her, a pitiable thing.
HISTORY:
Hush is unwelcome in her own household, and stands as her family's only child and only accident (for her mother had never really wanted to be a mother to begin with). She's not only an anomaly for a Viking, but an anomaly of her heritage - the last name of Ironfist comes from a pedigree of violent warriors. Her parents are of the hardened Viking stock unfit for times of peace, as expected; her father is a critical and demanding butcher, and her mother is a cold and distant leathersmith with established enough roles in the community. They are a well enough respected middle class family with shouting matches that can be heard into the thick of the night.
A casually broken home of either lonely or turbulent times is her legacy (that she'll defend to her dying breath), and as such Hush has been raised more by her self and the overall Viking community than she has her own kin. In spite of being pushed in to her own self-care, she's not very good at it - lagging behind her peers in some areas of common knowledge and well-being, mostly because of her tendency to stick her head into the sand. She's unfit for combat, and even though she enjoys visiting with the dragons in the stables she hasn't been particularly diligent about trying to impress a dragon of her own.
Imagine her thrill when she was finally set up to be an apprentice tailor just two short years ago. It's an occupation that she shows some promise for, while she couldn't be called a prodigy exactly it's clear that she's talented at and invested in tailoring. The act of weaving clothing together has become a part of her every day life and something she quite literally threads in to her every day life - something that occasionally ends up in islander's receiving the surprise gift of experimental clothing, sometimes functional and sometimes patently useless and bizarre.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Using other Viking's as her sword and shield is preferable, she doesn't much like getting her hands dirty. When forced to grab something at the academy she tends towards spears and lightweight knifes because they're lightweight and not cumbersome.
FIGHTING STYLE: Avoid the fight or flee, if she can get away with it. Otherwise she'll just grab whatever is nearby - she might not be proficient at using whatever is nearby or even particularly creative with it but... alright, yeah, she's got no real fighting capacity at all.
No dragon (yet).
