Monstrous Nightmare
Physical description: Monstrous Nightmares are large wyvern, like dragons, with plate like scales along their bodies. They have a long snout with large nostrils. Their beady eyes are placed at the back of their skulls, and have crested eyelids. Behind their eyes they have two pairs of rough, twisted horns that are long and twist. Their maws are lined with long teeth, that jut outside of their mouths like a crocodile. Monstrous Nightmares are adorned with long, triangular spines, that split into two as the neck reaches the body, and then come back into a single row at the base of the tail. They have long forearms, which work as wings, and walk in a pterodactyl-like fashion. These wings have two fingers with long claws which help them walk, and fight! Their hind legs are short, but they have long, sharp claws as well. Their tails are long, and are slightly webbed near the end like a newt's, helping with flight.
They are mostly seen in hues or red or purple, but like any dragon found in the Archipelago, they can really be found in any colour.
Size:
Abilities: A Monstrous Nightmare spits "liquid flame", that consisted of their saliva being flammable. It means their fire isn't easily extinguished, and it has been known to stick on the surfaces it has been spat on. Nightmares also use their saliva to coat their bodies, allowing them to appear to set themselves on fire. Somewhat like fireworms, they can increase their surface body temperature to an extraordinary amount to set themselves aflame.
In combat, they are perfectly capable of using their physical strength and claws in battle.
Shot Limit: 10
Drawbacks: The fire lasts as long as there is saliva to fuel them, so once their fire jacket runs out, they will have to wait until they can secrete enough saliva to cover them again. Their brash attitudes mean the could in theory be bested by a smarter foe. Their poor jaw strength means that a Viking can easily clamp it's mouth shut with it's arms, meaning it will be unable to use it's fire... Though the rest of the body may do what it pleases.
Blindspot: neck, just behind the head. Butt.
Typical Behaviour: Monstrous Nightmares aren't afraid to show off their fire power, in a "Ignite first, ask questions later" mentality. They are considered the most dangerous of the dragons, they tend to be the first to join a fight, and the last to leave. They can be stubborn and strong willed.
Habitat: Monstrous Nightmares live in more open places, where they can navigate easily, so you won't often find them in the forest, unless there is enough room to accommodate them. They are mostly found in the mountains or on the coastlines. These dragons are common, so they can be found anywhere on Berk, Hysteria or Red Rock.
Diet: They mostly eat fish, but they can eat other things too, like wild boar and sheep.
Training Methods: These dragons command respect, and if you want them to respect you, you have to respect them in return. They enjoy a soft hand on their snout, to show that they are not a threat. They also enjoy having their horns pinned to the ground, but this is only reccommended once trust is established.
