Physical Description: A large dragon by wingspan and height. The overall body size, while heavy compared to some dragons, is longer compared to thicker. This wyvern pattern dragon is predominantly reds blues or greens, but can sometimes be found in rarer metallic colors such as copper or silver. The long, spined tail ends at a Diamond spade or clubbed tip for swiping or bludgeoning. This is paired with a long neck with spines as well, and together between neck, back and tail, the spines are pose able. The head starts with a longer jaw and snout which ends with a sharp beak. The mouth holds razor sharp teeth, and the tongue itself is fleshy, much like humanity or a large bird. The head comes to an end with a large horned crest of varying design based on age or lineage. The eyes are wizened and hawk-like in performance. The ears of the dragon are visible as long pointed ends that sit behind a series of poseable frills on the sides of the head. These frills also continue along the jawline and are as hard as the scales that don the dragon's hide. The wingspan itself is what makes the dragon the most intimidating, where when fully extended can make the dragon seem far larger than it really is. With a sharp sense of hearing as well as keen eyes, this dragon lacks a strong sense of smell. However their sense of smell is comparable to dogs and wolves and are able to track targets just as well. It is the dragon's height, long neck, and long tail that play to the dragon's largest weakness. If one were able to get under the beast, the most it would be able to do is stomp around in hopes they could crush the invader. The overall size of the beast can be comparable to a timberjack or typhoomerang with a larger central body mass, thick shoulders and a more western style wing.
Typical Behaviour: A very intelligent breed of dragon rarely allows themselves to be confronted by humans as they are aware of our ability to actively think on our feet. That does not mean they do not allow an audience. They can be extremely protective of their families. Little is known about these dragons as few have approached them, fought them, or sought them out. Or rather, few who have lived to tell the tale. Stories about these dragons are often blown far out of proportion. The intelligence of these dragons however, is not inaccurate. Capable of cunning maneuvers, quick thinking, and strong fire breath, it is best to avoid these dragons should you meet one in the wilds.
Abilities: An extended flamethrower like firebreath. Having the inability to fire strict "Shots", this dragon throws a stream of burning fluids down range. This allows for extended periods of fire, normally 20-30 seconds of fire before having to stop for a moment. The Mountain Tyrant only has a "shot limit" of two extended burn periods that can be broken up intermittently to extend the limit well beyond four. By conserving the burn time to five or six seconds instead of a straight 20 to 30, the dragon can actually fire many short bursts of flame before having to "recharge". Out of combat, the dragon's breath recharges far faster than many. In combat, the recharge operates much like a stamina bar. Where you can fire, wait a period, fire again, wait a period, fire again. As long as you don't fully expend a shot, it will continue to very slowly regenerate.
In addition to fire breath, the Mountain Tyrant can hover much like a person would swim. Flap and drop, flap and drop, while the dragon is aloft like this, it can fire an extended burst of flame downward to where its feet would be and create an inferno. In order for this to happen, it has to expend a whole shot.
Basic combat abilities without fire include using its long neck and tail to its advantage to swipe and bite at targets. The "bladed", clubbed, or spined tail is used more often than it bites. Should a target reach its underside, it will use its feet to stomp an opponent into submission, or take off to create space.
Shot Limit: 2 burns (30 seconds long), this can be broken into intermittent bursts.
Drawbacks: The dragon's naturally tall stature and length, mixed with overall size make this dragon an easy target for ranged projectiles and fast hitting weapons such as knives, spears, lances, and mounted weapons. The dragon's sense of smell is dulled compared to sight and hearing, and the beast has a rather large blind spot between the legs. It has a hard time turning its long neck to see between its legs without making the head vulnerable. Once the shot limit has been expended, it takes a good deal of hours before it can use firebreath again. This dragon is bold, defensive, and prideful. Challenging this dragon would honor lock it to fight, as fleeing from a challenge would be seen as a sign of cowardice to these dragons.
Familial ties to siblings and parents, as well as grandsires and grand dames, are another weakness, as well as a strength. These dragons draw purpose from family and would die fighting to protect a member. Upon birth, these dragons are impressionable and can be taught almost instantly from a young age to trust people. Of course, the eggs are excessively rare and nearly impossible to actually get. This is something not yet known to anybody. Target the family, and the dragon will fight to the death.
Blindspot: between their legs, this dragon has a long neck but isn't flexible enough to see between its legs.
Training Methods:
It will take someone who is absolutely crazy to train them, let alone confront them.
In order to obtain this dragon, a character application must reach a few prerequisites. For questions pm Rilkar Olden or TrueMoon.
Habitat: The dragon is unable to stay in Berk due to the size. You'd have to find a place for the dragon to stay outside town limits if the dragon is going to be brought to Berk. They are common in the ex-kingdom of Heirah,
Diet: Most meats, mostly fish.
