Sabertoothed Dragon

Physical Description: Sabers are relatively large dragons, often taller than a full grown man. Its coloration of greens, browns, and other earthy tones(including black and white), seems far more appropriate for southern terrain where it is hot all the time and savannahs make up most of the territory…But Sabers are also furred and so a habitat like that doesn’t fit them. They prefer the relatively cold weather of Berk and the surrounding islands. They are known for their namesake, a set of long, tusk-like canine teeth.
Males have canines that protrude from their lower jaw as well as their upper jaw while females only have the more fang-like teeth. Despite being rather large, Sabers have sleek bodies made for speed, especially in diving. Most Sabers also sport a certain number of spikes on their snout, normally three to five. They have long horns placed toward the top of the back of their heads, which point backwards. Sabers have wide wings and are made so the Sabers can fly swiftly and gracefully through the air.

Jaw Strength:

Typical Behaviour: Most Sabers are solitary creatures who prefer to live alone from the moment they reach maturity. Up until then they are very dependent on their parents, who are protective of their hatchlings. A typical Saber clutch will only have one to three eggs in it, so the parents want to make sure their babies live to maturity. After reaching maturity, the only other dragon a Saber will live with is its mate, as Sabers mate for life. They are extremely loyal creatures, and they are very intelligent. Sabers will stand and fight, and are rather stubborn dragons, when it comes to not giving up, especially if they have someone to protect and have very short tempers which doesn’t help their willingness to attack.
Abilities: Sabers can, like most dragons, breath fire, however a certain agent in their saliva makes the fire have a greenish tint after it passes through the dragon’s mouth. This agent is also the very bacteria that causes a Saber’s saliva to be toxic, and if a bite wound from this dragon is not immediately cleaned, the bacteria will spread and the limb the bite had been on would likely have to be removed. They utilize their speed, agility, and largely short bursts of fire to confuse their opponent before delivering a final strike.
Drawbacks: Sabers are extremely possessive dragons, so if you happen to bond with one, don’t be surprised if it looks like it’s about to attack your friend or family member. They’re also rather lazy and cat-like dragons, and would much rather prefer basking in the sun than flying with you, despite their love of flying. The final drawback would have to be their mane. Often it is either pure black, pure white, or striped (like a zebra’s), which not only stands out in a forest but the length of the mane makes it get tangled and full of sticks and leaves.
Training Methods: Anyone who rides a Saber will discover the vanity and pride of these dragons and would quickly find out how often you have to brush their manes for them to be happy.
Habitat: They prefer to live on plains, in a moderate temperature. Though some are found on Berk, you would see them more often on the moors of Hysteria or on the Red Rock countryside.
