Ambassador
Physical Description: These wyvern-like dragons are a similar size to a Monstrous Nightmare. They have a long serpentine body. They have curved diamond shaped plate scales, though these reduce in size around areas which have a lot of flexibility and movement, like the limbs and the base of the neck and skull. These scales work somewhat like a Stormcutter's - they are able to puff them up in a similar manner to a bird's feathers. This even extends to their wings, which also look like feathers, but are actually slim, elongated scales too! This dexterity with the movement of their scales allows them to "fine tune" their flight. The wing structure is similar to birds, except they have two "fingers" with long claws and padded underneath for walking. Just after the rump there is a psuedo-fin, also in a similar structure to a bird's tail feathers, and again at the base of the tail. Only the rudders behind the legs have dexterity. There are no muscles in the tip of the tail to control the tailpiece, but instead offers stability in flight and lift to the tail rather than control. An Ambassador's head is somewhat bird-like as well - they have large eyes and a hooked beak. Though they have no teeth at the front of their jaws, they have strong molars at the back to help crush tougher meats and small bones. At the back of the head, their scales elongate once again into a pretty crest, which can flex depending on their expression. Behind the crest is a crown of thing, slightly curved horns, which like the rest of the claws on the dragon are black in colour.
All Ambassadors are generally black or extremely dark coloured, but their iridescent scales can make them "light up" in the sun, or if light catches them in a certain way. In some cases they may not appear black in colour at all, if the light is right! Ambassadors have only one colour, but colours vary between individuals. Eye colour holds the same or similar hue to their iridescent colour.
Male Ambassadors are slightly smaller than females, but they are also slightly stockier. They make it up though for spectactular plumage - their crests are bigger, almost to a point you don't see their horns! Their tail piece will also be bigger, with extra scales running down the tail. Females have a smaller crest but longer horns. Their body shape is a little bit more slender than a male's.
Typical Behaviour: Ambassadors are generally very cocky dragons. They think they are the best, and they know it. They can also be rather possessive of things, be it objects, people... But the time they are possessive may vary. If anything gets between them and something they are looking after, they can be incredible aggressive. Females tend to be more aggressive than males though, but males can be aggressive too!
Abilities:
-Their scales are incredibly sharp. Thee sharpest of their scales are their primary "feathers", and the largest of their body scales, which are closest to the spine, that run from the neck to about halfway down the tail. In aerial combat against a webbed dragon, it could deftly try and slice the membrane of the dragon's wings, making it plummet to it's demise.
-Ambassadors can sense when there are others of their kind in the vicinity. It's wired into their internal compass, which tells them where to meet up during breeding season. The location of the breeding grounds change every year, but they all find each other regardless.
-Despite their wings taking on a bird-like format, they are still rather manoeuvrable in the skies compared to webbed dragons, thanks to the ability to fine tune the position of their scales.
Drawbacks:
- When these guys are angry, it will take them a long time to calm down, unless whatever's bothering them is utterly destroyed.
- Sometimes their possessive nature can get in the way of daily activities, such as socialising.
- Their internal compass sometimes make them need to travel elsewhere, sometimes without warning. Prepare to be taken on a long ride, or the dragon may abandon you. With training, and developing a bond with an Ambassador, they may be able to resist the urges easier.
-Be warned when stroking an ambassador, if something spooks it, their scales might puff up and leave you with a nasty gash in your hands. Even if this isnt the case, sometimes scales arent properly aligned and could also induce cuts.
-Ambassador's fire is rather abysmal. They have fire, but hardly use it for combat. Instead it's more of a last-resort threat display if their initial rattling doesn't work. The colour ranges from red to orange in colour. Though not lethal it can still set clothes and hair on fire.
Training Methods: To train an Ambassador, it takes time. They need to be given a LOT of respect, and flattery (unless they're really angry, it won't work then). They like gifts of food, or "toys" to "possess". You have to work on their terms. They will NEVER work to your terms.
Habitat: Ambassadors are mostly nomadic, but they are generally attracted to mountainous areas, or rocky/cliffy coastlines, even more so if there is shelter for them to stay in. Ambassadors can be seen on most of the 5 continents, though fewer on Antartica. It is hard to track them down because of their constant and somewhat random migration behaviour.
Diet: A varied diet, dependant on the habitat and need for survival. From most likely to least likey is as follows- fish, meat, carrion, birds, vikings, molluscs, other dragons.
