Thunderdrum
Physical Description: These dragons have stubby legs and long, skinny tails. When they open their enormous mouths, they show a series of teeth inside. Their wings are large triangles. It has a horn on the tip of its nose. It also has a series of backwards facing spikes sticking out of its back. The Thunder Drum's torso expands with it's mouth.
Typical Behaviour: Strident and assertive, the loud Thunderdrum always makes it's feelings known. These dragons are rarely alone, swimming the ocean in large pods mostly made up out of their direct family. They hunt and travel together, and will protect each other no matter the cost.
Abilities:
- Instead of breathing fire, the Thunderdrum produces a strong concussive sound that can kill a human at close range. The blast is so powerful that the dragon is said to "get its power from Thor himself."
- It's sonic blast is not only capable of temporally stunning other dragons, but also can even extinguish flames shot by other dragons.
- When not swelling up with air in order to yell, Thunderdrums can actually flatten their bodies by expelling all oxygen from their massive longs for a limited period of time. In this sleeker state they can better skim the ocean surfaces or even dive beneath the waves in search of prey.
-In order to protect themselves from their own sound emissions, the Thunderdrums developed a system to offset sonic blasts by regulating wave frequencies of blasts to neutralize others' roars. This modulating also prevents sounds from damaging surroundings ("rendering it into a rather calming wave of white noise!"). Because of this, Thunderdrums are nearly deaf.
Drawbacks:
- While this dragon seemingly has no faults, it's smaller legs do prove a challenge when on uneven terrain.
- Like with most dragons, if you can clamp the Thunderdrums mouth closed it cannot use it's sonic blast.
Training Methods: Thunderdrums need a stern hand, but still demand respect. If you push them the wrong way, they will most certainly let you know. If you can show this rowdy dragon you are willing to work with it, and not against it, it will be more willing to give you a chance. But that doesn't mean it wont make it difficult for you.
Habitat: Dark Sea Caves, Tidal Pools, or just in open water.
Diet: Fish and crustaceans.
