Faerie Whisp
Images (if any):
Physical Description: The smallest known species of dragon, this tiny reptile can have a wingspan of 1-3 inches across with proportionately sized bodies according to wingspan. Males are typically larger than females. They come in every color imaginable. When at height of their mating season, they develop a brighter shade of the same hue. Their wings are delicate and vary in shape, though all closely resemble the wings of a butterfly in appearance. Also like a butterfly's wings, a Faerie Whisp's wings are covered in very small feathers rather than scales like most dragons. Their bodies are covered in tiny scales made up of the same material as a larger dragon's scales, only far smaller in comparison. Each dragon has 4 very short, delicate legs. Their "paws" do not include claws, instead, their pads are slightly sticky from a fluid which forms on them, making it more easily possible to land and walk short distances. The are animals are built for flying, not walking- so they are very inefficient when walking long distances. A Faerie Whisp without its wings is doomed, they have little for defense and can easily be captured by larger prey.
Eggs are A centimeter or less in size. Hatchlings die easily so litters are often rather large. Their tails are rather long for their bodies, in length, it would be at minimum equal to the length of their body from nose tip to base of tail. At the tip of their tail is a spot which becomes Bio-Luminescent at night. They are often confused as fireflies, though they are far more difficult to catch.
Typical Behaviour: Faerie Whisps are included in many Viking legends and often posses magical properties in the stories. Though it is not proven that this is true, many believe it and boast of having evidence that proves so.
Abilities: Because of their small size, while in the air, they are very fast, light and nimble creatures.
Drawbacks: They do not breathe fire, toxic gasses, ice, etc.
Training Methods: Though there are even those who do not believe they exist at all. Faerie Whisps simply cannot be tamed and have no practical purpose to a viking, which is why they are not a popular dragon to own. It is quite possible for them to live in captivity, though.
Habitat: They reside in underpopulated areas in fields and bushes and are largely Incompatible with water. Faerie Whisps live in colonies ranging from 40-150 dragons per colony. Nesting and Mating most often occurs in the tree tops, high above the ground away from most potential predators.
Diet: Diet consists of various types of bugs and insects.
