Original art should be coming soon- as soon as I figure out how to draw the head properly!
Physical Description:
This is a dragon made to live in a snowy wasteland. Its back and sides are covered in hollow spines to trap the warmth from the sun, keeping this dragon from freezing stiff. They live in packs and huddle close together at night to share what heat is left in their spines. The thickness of their spiky coat is doubly useful- it keeps the wind from their skin and serves as a layer of armour for them, protecting them from harm. The white scales and spikes reflect sunlight like the snow, making them practically invisible.
The Sunstalkers are great runners- their paws are wide, with splayed claws to help distribute their weight, keeping them from sinking into the snow as they pass over it. They have a long snout to help in fishing, and a strong jaw to hold onto anything they catch. Their four wings are small and usually tucked tight into their bodies. Though they can fly, they don't use this skill often, preferring to run or swim. The wide open spaces of their home are just too windy to make flying easy, and it's mostly used as a last resort in dangerous situations.
They're 7'4" tall when standing straight and 6'5" when running flat out.
Stats:
Attack: 12
Speed: 15
Armour: 13
Fire power: 0
Shot limit: 0
Venom: 0
Jaw Strength: 16
Stealth: 18
Typical Behaviour:
This dragon is the king of slow and steady. Not physically- they can act fast when they really need to!- but they're patient and easy-going, and so long as they know there's someone to feed them, they're willing to lie in a patch of sunlight and dream of meals to come. It's part conservation of energy, part laziness.
They can sit still for hours by a fishing hole and run for hours without tiring. They're a very patient dragon, able to do the same thing over and over without getting sick of it, so long as they know there's food at the end of the line. They don't rush their tracking or fishing, they don't rush their training, they just don't rush.
But man, if their prey is about to get away, or they're about to become lunch for something bigger or meaner, then you'd better hope you're not standing in the way, because you're likely to get trampled.
Abilities:
The wide paws and hollow spikes make this breed excellent swimmers, as well as expert runners. They're fishers and hunters, so it's important for them to have fast reflexes and to blend in with their surroundings. Of course, that only really works in the snow...
The spikes are usually tipped backwards slightly, but can be lain flat in a show of submission or puffed out to look bigger. They're also easier to get stabbed on when they're sticking straight up.
Drawbacks:
They stick out like a sore thumb in warmer weather. They also have pretty limited eyesight- the sun reflecting off the snow makes it hard to see, so they've come to rely on their sense of smell and hearing for most things.
They also have absolutely no breath weapons, and they're just... not that bright. They're also very sensitive to the emotions of those around them, which means their rider's smallest annoyances get blown way out of proportion.
Training Methods:
They live in packs, which means they're very empathetic. They're pretty dumb though. These two things blend together to make them very easy to domesticate. You're going to need a goodly amount of meat, though. And time, because they aren't the fastest learners. Goes with the patience/laziness thing.
Though these dragons are impossible to ride bareback, they can be saddled. The spines naturally point backwards, and can be made to lay flat without bothering the dragon. The heat from the rider's body is actually warmer than sunlight, so the dragons are usually quite pleased with the arrangement.
Habitat: Arctic. The Frozen Isle of Nowhere is snowy all year round, though in summer it's thin enough for a few tough greens to poke through. The waters are cold and fast, but this doesn't bother the Sunstalkers much. In winter, everything is frozen over, and the best method for fishing is a nice hole in the ice. Sunstalkers also dig burrows in the snow and pile in by the handful to keep warm at night.
Diet: All carnivore, all the time, baby! These guys prefer fish, but if it's easier to find a fox or a bird, or even a lone wolf or bear, they'll just eat that. They're especially efficient when hunting in packs.
*previously Invisible SnarlStalker, for their attack on first mate Snarl the Second, Who Was Saved By His Cousin's Monstrous Nightmare, Though Not Without Losing An Arm, And It Was His Fault Anyway For Wandering Off In A New Land Alone, The Idiot**
