Scentipede
Class: Tracker
Physical Description: The Scentipede is a very long dragon, roughly the length of a Whispering Death. It has a very trangular head, with two large nostrils at the front with two much smaller eyes behind, hidden beneath thick armour. It has small spines running along the top of it's head, and slightly down the nape of it's neck. From the back of it's head, behind the armour plating are two long and curved horns. The dragon has a split bottom jaw, but when it's mouth is closed the bottom jaw is not visible except from beneath it's head.
Along the dragons back it has 20 thick armour plates, and between each segment excluding the one closest to it's head, there is a short limb that ends in two thick claws. Between the third and fourth segment there is also a short wing. When the dragon is standing with it's head lifted, it uses it's wing as a support limb but when it's head is next to the ground and all legs are on the ground the wings are held tightly at it's sides.
At the end of the dragon, the 20th plate splits in half and protects the begining of two short tails that continue on. The tails consist of smaller plating, but otherwise have no 'decorative' features on them.
Typical Behaviour: While these dragons are extremely agressive, they are also nervous. They will attack out of fear and uncertainty instead of backing off. In a fight, they would sooner die than stand down, and as such they have been known to continue fighting even when limbs have been severed.
When hunting they rely on their speed, and will coil around the prey and hold on with all limbs. They don't rely on actually fighting their prey so much as forcing it into a hold and tearing at it while still alive.
They have been known to go to extreme measures to catch prey, from climbing trees and dropping on them, to burrowing underground to get to it. This dragon is to stubborn to understand the meaning of the word 'impossible'.
They are very rarely seen more than one at a time, and when they are it is usually over territory disputes.
Abilities:
- These dragons are best know for their amazing sense of smell. They use their nose for pretty much everything.
- On land they are extremely mobile, no obstacle can get in their way.
- Scentipedes are gas breathing dragons, and while it is not recommended to inhale it, that is not it's intended purpose. Each one has a very unique scent, an extremely subtle varience that only other tracker class dragons can determine. It's how they tell each other apart, since they cannot rely on their vision to identify friend from rival.
Drawbacks:
- Unfortunatly for them, their super noses pick up everything. Even those smells they would rather never have to endure.
- In the air they are slow and awkward, unable to turn suddenl or go any faster than a gradual crawl.
- While they are quick to get away, they are not so good at hiding due to their length. If they can't camoflauge then they can be spotted quite easily.
- They have very small eyes, and as such don't rely on their vision much if at all. They have been known to attack things because they smell like food, but aren't.
- While their backs are heavily armoured, their stomachs are less so, to allow for a wider range of motion. It also means they are softer. As such, they will always keep their belly low to the ground.
Training Methods: Do not, on any circumstance, try to train this dragon with food. You already smell like food to it, and you should in fact try to make yourself smell less like food. Mud works, or dragon dung, to mask the human scent.
Be sure to stay where it can see you, it has a very large blind spot and if it can't see you it will ultimately ignore you. Once the dragon has aknowledged your presence, usually with a bow of it's head, then it is safe to approach it.
Only once this dragon has allowed you to approach it completely should you stop masking your scent. The dragon will likely attack upon smelling the new scent, but assuming you did everything else correctly it will back off when it recognizes you.
Habitat: Dense forest
Diet: Anything meat it can overpower. It will not hunt for fish, but will eat it if found by other means.
