NAME: Wilgard the Fearful (Willy)
AGE: 14
ORIGIN: Itchy Armpit (She lives in Berk though)
OCCUPATION: Apprentice Builder (homes, other buildings, etc.)
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Female, straight
LIKES: Wilgard definitely likes to build her own kind of contraptions, and often spends her time drawing designs for buildings. She definitely likes to work with dragons and reading.
DISLIKES: She strongly dislikes eating meat like chicken. She’s not a vegetarian though, she kind of dislikes vegetarians too. Another dislike is timberjacks. The annoying things cut trees down and get in her way, even if she likes to use the trees for building. Wilgard definitely dislikes people who think they’re SO much higher than everyone else, so much better. It annoys her to no end and she always feels like she wants to prove them wrong. Last of all, Wilgard definitely dislikes having to give up. She doesn’t mind losing a fight (as long as she lives), but when she’s particularly forced to give up on a building design, or a challenge that might not include fighting, it really irks her.
STRENGTHS: A strength, Wilgard is good at thinking on her feet. She’s fairly good in emergency situations. While she isn’t particularly super buff, she’s quick and flexible. A third strength would be that Wilgard is a good swimmer. She can’t deal with the sky as much, but the water is much better. The last strength for Wilgard is that she is a capable fighter.
WEAKNESSES: She can be very easily mislead, and betrayal is often something that happens during a friendship of hers. In a way she can be clumsy, but it’s a 25% chance that she will drop something or trip. While she can fight, she’s not good against large opponents and especially not the best against those with large dragons. She’s terrible at long-range weapons.
FEARS: She is terribly afraid of falling. Not quite heights, but falling from those heights. Another fear is eels. Wilgard isn’t deathly afraid, but dislikes the thought of the weird worm-like things and seeing them is just not fun. A fairly general fear is making speeches of some sort. Especially in front of large groups, it makes her quite uncomfortable. She’s not terribly unsocial, but she’s afraid of making speeches and then screwing up and not being able to help her impression that she’s just made. A time when these 'speeches' would be made would be for planning buildings and new areas of the village. As for a last fear, well, a 4th fear, Wilgard isn’t much of a fan of fire. She’s okay with small fires like torches and candles or something, but not huge fires from dragons like monstrous nightmares. Which is why she owns 3 Smothering Smokebreath dragons.
AMBITIONS: An ambition, a very tough ambition is to create a flying machine, one that isn’t a living, breathing dragon. A second ambition, to be head-builder of the entire village. Another hard one. A third ambition is to discover a new dragon species (although that’s a bit more chance than possibility). And finally, a last ambition of Wilgard is to be able to get a good family. Although that’s when she’s much older.
SECRETS: The deepest, darkest secret of Wilgard is that she basically killed her brother. Another hidden secret is that she’s not quite from Berk.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: Around her friends, Wilgard can be quite social and jokes around a fair amount. While she doesn’t have a lot of friends, she has close ones. She can be quite awkward at first, but if you slip into her ring of security, Wilgard will be loyal to you forever. If you call for help during a thunderstorm, even if just for something small, she’ll be there. She’s very willing to help others unless she hates them. Her hatred for others can be quite strong once she begins to hate them. Wilgard won’t really go out of her way to be mean, but she may give the occasional shoulder bump and cold glare. As for dragons, again, she quite dislikes stoker dragons, whispering death dragons, and timberjacks. Sometimes she can be quite light in terms of mood of course, although dealing with high stress situations can make her a little demanding since she goes into a just-want-to-get-this-done kind of attitude, not really joking.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION:
Body: Wilgard isn’t stick thin, but she isn’t super buff or large. She has muscle and you could say she is lean, but not ripped. Wilgard stands at about 5’4”.
Head: Her hair is a kind of wavy brown hair and she has dark green eyes. Her face is not short, but is about a medium height for a head. Her hair falls to the bottom of her shoulder blades.
Clothing: Wilgard prefers to wear her tan, thin linen t-shirt and dark blue pants that are quite worn in in the knees. She has thin, red arm wraps that go around her palm (between her index and thumb finger), and around her wrist all the way down to her elbow, leaving just enough space for her to bend her arm well. Wilgard doesn’t really like skirts of any sort, but they’re not totally out of question. On her feet are warm, fur-lined boots made of soft leather. For colder weather, Wilgard wears a red, fur-lined hood along with a thin fur vest and fur-lined hand/arm warmer thingys (meh, they’re not really gloves but….).
HISTORY: As for where Wilgard was born, she was born in neither Berk nor Hysteria. Her mother died before she could ever tell her where she came from, but something nags at Wilgard that she was born somewhere from the mountains. Obviously there’s no proof, but she sometimes wants to think that anyway. She’s used the fact that she doesn’t know for sure (it was actually Itchy Armpit) and made up plenty of different stories. The true story, though, is this:
Family History:
She doesn't know a lot of her own history, but I shall give you a bit of intel. First of all, yes, she came from Itchy Armpit. Along with her mother, who had taken her from the land of Itchy Armpit when she was about 2 years old. Revilka was hardly a dragon rider, but she had her ways with building structures. Revilka hadn't had Dargard yet, that was while they were in Berk. She lived as a single mother, the father having had died the night of Wilgard's birth, within a tiny, almost un-noticable village. The village was built into a few of Itchy Armpit's tall towers. The widest ones they could find so they wouldn't collapse the instant the vikings had tried to break into the stone. This village was called Tarjoki, and between the few tall towers, precarious wooden bridges had been built. It was a peaceful village, neither fighting nor riding dragons. They mostly lived off of a large amount of tasteless moss-like crops. A few months after her birth, a wild Whispering Death dragon came into the area, ravaging through the ground and eventually coming up to where the village was. Now, the village wasn't terribly high in the area, but it was a good 3-4 stories upwards. There were also stairs descending to the ground. The whispering death dragon came straight up from the ground, clearing out a tunnel that caused the tower to shake. The entire village had begun to descend down the stairs of the furthest section of the village (sections being singular rock towers) and the weight had caused the stairs to become even more unstable.
The stairs were never really used for anything other than a possible escape route. Within the village, ghost stories were told about those who didn't come back. It had seemed impossible, to Ravilka, that they would ever need to depend on it with their lives.
Here they were though, a bunch of screaming vikings trampling each other to get down. Ravilka got to the bottom first, and, holding her crying Wilgard, ran as far away from the towers and others as possible from her panic. She was mostly confused, but safety for her child was priority and to her, safety meant getting as far away as possible.
At first, she was completely lost. The bottoms of the towers looked so alike she didn't know what was where or where the others were. Eventually, Ravilka had decided to travel as far in one direction that she picked as possible. At first it was exhausting. Considering she, and most if not all the entire village fed upon moss-like crops, she had barely much energy.
The day she reached the shoreline, it was like seeing heaven. The vast waters that she didn't always see was not only overwhelming, but relieving to no end. The mother-viking had quickly replenished her energy a bit by drinking the water, as terrible as it tasted. She changed, then. It was like a slap in the face. While she had grown up her entire life in the village, Ravilka had realized that salvation was out there somewhere. Her new fear to live in Itchy Armpit was no more and she longed to see if there was not only water, but more land.
Through long months of constant working, figuring out the area of the shoreline, getting food and wood, Ravilka had finally created a slightly sea-worthy boat/raft. Wilgard was about 1 y/o at this point, and had been brought aboard the boat/raft, Ravilka began their voyage. Considering the storms that roll in and the numerous dragons that ravage the seas, it took several months to even make it halfway to Berk. Of course, Ravilka didn't know it was Berk, but she was rescued by Wilgard's future father, Oriki. Oriki had been riding his Rumblehorn dragon and was heading towards a different area of land for a special wood when he had spotted Ravilka in the waters.
Ravilka and Wilgard were taken back to Berk and in time, Oriki and Ravilka had gotten married (however that works for vikings). Eventually, Wilgard's little brother, Dargard, was born. Wilgard was about 4 at the time. Life was good for the family. Wilgard was already tinkering with her father and Ravilka had become a sheep farmer, having been introduced to red meat.
One day, when Wilgard was 6, she was showing Dargard, who was 2 (if you are terrible at math. Nah, you're probably great at math) a bunch of new tools that Oriki had created recently. At the time, she had not come to realize that the tools were dangerous and began to play around with them with her younger brother.
Now, leaving Wilgard and Dargard with a bunch of tools wasn't quite the best. He may have been one of the calmest viking children Oriki had seen, but she was something of a small fireball at the time, burning with energy.
Wilgard encouraged Dargard to play around with the tools. They were on the floor, next to a table that had a box of the medium-sized hand tools. While the young female viking reached up to get another, the box fell off the edge of the table and most, except maybe a few, of the metal working materials had landed right on the head of Wilgard's 2 y/o brother.
She hadn't effectively understood the difference between death and sleep, and after a few minutes of trying to wake Dargard up, she began to panic. Wilgard was screaming for her parents and Revilka was the first to get to the house.
Grieving for young Dargard went on for months, almost a year. It was then, 2 years later, that Revilka passed away. She was killed by a Thunder drum while traveling back to Itchy Armpit to see, if just maybe, there were villagers from Tarjoki who still lived there.
When Wilgard was 10, she began her life as an apprentice builder to her father, who had been grieving so much that he ended up having to work straight through the grief. Then, when she was 12, she met her three Smothering Smokebreath dragons.
Meeting Smog, Fog, and Mist:
Considering that Wilgard likes to play around with her own designs, she decided that she would spend a little bit of time trying to make some for real. Having had escaped her job, she was working with several shiny tools and living in the woods for a little bit, near a tall hill. It was unfortunate, or fortunate, that the three young ‘Fog Monsters’ had happened to come upon her toolbox.
They quickly made off with the slightly fancy looking tools and left her to chase after them, quickly getting lost in their fog. At first, she was quite annoyed. All she came out to do was find a way to create at least one thing.
It was a game of tag, though. Tag in a cloud of fog that she couldn’t even see her own hands in. Eventually the fog cleared and the tools were left behind by the young dragons. As soon as the day was over and Wilgard had taken her tools back and worked a little more, she found that her thieves were back for more.
The dragons had returned, and her tools were missing the next day. Wilgard was annoyed, but considering the smoke cloud she woke up in, she knew they had taken the tools. This was when she decided she wanted to make a bait for them, get her tools back, and never see them again. Returning to Berk when the smoke cleared, Wilgard collected as many scraps of metal as she could and took it back to where she had first gotten the tools back. Setting up a pile of scrap metal in an easily-carryable bag, Wilgard stepped back and hid in a tree, waiting. Her original plan, other than building a scrap-trap, was to create a weapon for herself. Axes and small pointy tools wouldn't do it for her and especially not for her terrible aim.
The dragons had returned, with her tools surprisingly. It wasn’t long before they were occupying themselves with lifting the scrap metal and carrying it away. Something of that sort, considering they took most of their time playing king of the hill. She took her tools back and took a little bit of the scrap metal, going back towards the village. It wasn’t long before one of the courageous young dragons swooped down and snatched up one of the tools. Wilgard held fast, being carried into the sky by the dragon. The other two joined and soon she was higher than she wanted to be, looking down at the now small scraps of metal.
Fairly quickly they set her down, or at least, crash landed safely, if that's even possible. The dragons seemed curious, for some reason, now. They were young, so perhaps they didn’t understand where she was actually going, or the fact that they would probably hate it at the village.
Returning to her house where the rest of her tools were, they burst inside once she opened the doors and leapt into the pile of tools, well, then it turned into a pile of tools. It used to be sorted but now they’re just everywhere.
From that point on, the dragons never really left. They always had a weird obsession with her tool pile and eventually bonded enough with her to become her partners for projects such as building a weapon.
FAMILY: Wilgard’s mother, Revilka the Shy, is deceased, but she often refers to what her mother used to say. Her brother, Dargard the Tame, is also deceased. Her father works with her on building, but not specifically on building, he also works as a blacksmith in general. His name is Oriki the Strong.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Wilgard’s weapon ended up being a kind of staff, more like a spear. Although the spear also has a blade a the top end. It stands at about her height, and the blade is fairly large.
The picture is only an idea of what the weapon would actually look like (an example of the weapon can be seen in HTTYD2 when Drago is speaking with Eret and Astrid (his henchmen have some)).
FIGHTING STYLE: While she’s not the best fighter, as mentioned before, she is capable of fighting (as mentioned before). When she uses her usual weapon, Wilgard prefers to be on the defense, always deflecting as much of whatever is thrown/shot at her when in battle. She can go offense too, but rarely. Smog, Fog and Mist often help her leave a battle with a smoky escape.
DRAGON (optional):
NAME: Smog, Fog, Mist
GENDER: Smog and Fog are males, Mist is female.
TYPE: Smothering Smokebreaths
APPEARANCE: The three are average fog monsters with light grey coloring and darker grey undersides. Smog, though, has oddly large/long legs.
PERSONALITY: Smog: He is the eldest of the trio, but is just as fun. Sometimes he can be serious, but they are mostly fun-loving, especially playing in the pile of tools. He often tries to get Fog to play fight with him, but the poor young dragon is usually scared off. Smog was also the least trustful in Wilgard when they had first begun to stay in her house. Although, he usually understands Wilgard the best in terms of listening to common tongue.
Fog: The youngest of the trio, the small dragon is often the one carrying tools back and forth to Wilgard if she’s far from her set. He is kind of a wimp and doesn’t really like to fight, or even play fight. Any sign of any fight might send him running to Wilgard.
Mist: With Mist being second oldest, she’s oddly more calm. Not as energetic, and often likes to help Wilgard rather than play in the tool pile. She doesn’t prefer to carry tools like Fog may, but is a great help with her blowtorch-like fire breath.
STRENGTHS: When they pull themselves together, the trio can be quite terrifying, especially when aggravated. Considering Fog dislikes fights, he often helps quite a lot with spreading the most smoke around, temporarily blinding their enemies. Smog helps with the attack, his larger legs enables him to swoop down and attack whatever it is they’re against. Mist helps to attack with her longer/larger flame.
WEAKNESSES: The three aren’t the best coordinated and may often make mistakes such as accidentally attacking Wilgard, or not attacking the right enemy. They may also occasionally lose a tool here and there. As again mentioned, Fog dislikes fighting, Mist isn’t the most energetic, and Smog is hard to get trustful in another person.
