She tries to keep balance in her life and other's lives, but doesn't mind a bit of controlled chaos now and then. Sometimes she can come off a bit insensitive or rude, but she usually means the best for the situation even if that does not happen. She spends a good chunk of her time documenting her days and reading up on the latest topic to come to mind. She is an extreme extrovert and can be found often walking with people and talking even if she does not know those people. When found at a celebration, she is usually busting a move or thirty. Her love to dance is equaled only by her addiction to the Deceiver's fumes. She has no problem helping her friends, family, and even people she has no prior affiliations with solve a problem. She likes to take it upon herself to fix everything she can even if she has no possible way to do it.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Ylva is a mildly curvy individual standing at an average 5' 7". She sits at about 164 lbs. Her head has a triangular appeal. she has a few freckles that dot her face in a weak line across her average-sized nose. Her eyes are a whispy blue, and her hair is a light brown. She keeps her hair in two long and thin braids that hang infront of her shoulders, and she keeps some of her hair hanging down her back as straight and loose as possible. Her arms and legs are average sized with enough muscle to count, but not enough to be impressive or obvious. She has medium length, but fairly thin, hands, and she has very little body hair. This causes her to wear thick coats and pants to stay warm in the brutal winters of Berk and the surrounding islands. She prefers the color indigo to many of the colors available, and thus her coat has vertical stripes of indigo running down the back. She wears tan pants with indigo on the knees. She wears thick brown boots to keep her feet warm.
HISTORY: Ylva was born as the second child to her parents Asger and Karia Hedenis. During the nicer month of April, on the 28th day, she was born. Her brother was born approximately 4 years before her on the 10th of June. Their family lived in the insane lands of Hysteria when Asger worked hard to not kill his family with the creation of new weapons and Karia was always out doing favors for people in town. Her brother was an apprentice of the creation of siege machines long before she even thought about her own life.
She lived in a relatively small home where no one was home too often. Her mother stayed home for long enough to get her onto her feet and moving about. After that, there wasn't too much home support. She learned much of her skills on her own, and it was these early stages in her life that sprouted many of her hobbies and fears. Her upbringing of being alone often had caused her to dislike and even fear being alone even if it is for a little bit of time. There were times when she felt abandoned by just how busy her family was, and this provoked a fear of being alone.
More times than she likes to admit, she was trying to figure things out. How everything came together, and how people work. From as early as 8 she was thinking all the time. She wanted to learn as much as she could as often as she could. There were times when she'd ask questions endlessly until her dad would just give up and head to bed. These were the times that sparked her desire to keep knowing more. This desire to know more lead her to begin learning how to read and write when she wasn't out talking to friends and complete strangers while observing her surroundings and how people perform their tasks. She really enjoyed visiting Theraputix and learning what she could there.
Around the age of 10, she had gotten into an argument with a group of adults because she thought the way they were building a house was inefficient and pointless. She had mentioned how she thought the way the frame was being put up was hard and laborous, and that there was a better way, but it quickly escalated, and she was quickly heated to a point of an extreme reaction. After several hours of explaining and arguing, they finally trumped her voice and sent her home. She felt humiliated and horribly ignorant. She hated the idea of ignorance, and she had known that she did not know everything there was to know about building, and she hated it. She did not want to feel like that again, and she was so upset by it that she grew to fear not knowing, and this quickly led to the fear of making mistakes. She did not ever want to make a mistake again despite knowing that she would. She was scared by the concept of being ignorant and messing up. She wanted to do things the right way the first time because she couldn't mess up anymore.
It was around the age of 13 that her dad finally stepped up and taught her how to effectively fight and the art of dragon slaying. She took in the knowledge eagerly and with much haste. Within a year she had a strong grasp on basic tactics. By age 14, she had picked her weapon of choice, the Atgeir, and she had requested the blacksmith to make her an atgeir to carry with her. Once she had received it, she usually left it at home because she had no need for it in the "safety" of her home.
By age 15, she had picked up the habit of dancing while she was alone. She had no instruction or teachings, but she knew it felt right. It took her a while, but she finally figured out how to move in the most effective strategies. She kept this hidden as well while trying to fit in even though she knew her mother had a few moves up herself. During this time, she had traded her atgeir and various writings for indigo dyes in secret with the traders who came by. She used the dyes to dye her coat and pants to have indigo stripes.
Ylva had reached age 16 when her parents had started to encourage her to find out where she wanted to go. Her father was really excited with the idea of her becoming a warrior. He had saw how fast she progressed in fighting, but she actually hated fighting. The idea of hostility towards another person was not something she enjoyed. Her mother was really excited to drag her into relationships and becoming a good wife, but this was not an idea Ylva enjoyed. She had thought she'd rather be a warrior than whatever her mother was doing. She spent a year thinking about her future. She had spent that time continuing to read and write in secret. She didn't know how her family would react to her hobbies, so she tried to keep it as secret as possible for as long as possible.
Around the age of 17, she had hit a fork in her path of life that caused her to shut down. She didn't know what to do, and her parents were hot on her heels to pick a path. She didn't want either path she was presented, and the inability to understand and know what she wanted caused her great struggle. After a bit of thinking, she had decided that she wanted to become a scholar. She loved to learn, and that's what she wanted to pursue. She had kept her decision secret for a long time under the guise of wanting to be completely sure of her path. By this time, her brother was already engaged, and her parents only had Ylva to worry about. Their pestering had increased, and she was feeling pressure. Despite loving to talk to people, she found it hard to talk to her parents at this point, for she felt like she was under a constant watch.
She had finally turned 18, and she told her parents that she wanted to be a scholar. This upset her parents, but the real problem showed up a few months after when she had a meltdown over the way Hysteria worked. She had spent 18 years of her life feeling insecure and like an outcast. She never fit into the lifestyle of Hysteria, and she had enough of it. She had yelled that she hated Hysteria, and that she'd rather die on a boat than stay. Her parents disowned her relatively shortly after, and over the course of that night she stole an old boat and went off to find a current.
There are many currents to outcast island and berk, but she hit one that took her elsewhere. A few days had passed and she made landfall on an island that was unfamiliar to her, but perhaps well known by others. It seemed large enough to have been explored, but the heavy woodlands would have made it hard to explore thoroughly. Ylva entered the outer edge of the woodlands in search of something to eat seeing as it had been a couple days since she last ate. She had little knowledge of the forest, and she eventually gave up and started to eat tree leaves. She spent the next few days building a shelter around the outer edges of the woods, which she learned how to do through watching the locals build homes, and set it up so she could spot any boats that might come by. She also went out everyday to forage for food and learn more about her surroundings. Her life went on like this for roughly a year. She experienced a slow descent into depression due to the lack of communications. She always felt on edge because she would occasionally notice a dark shadow of something moving in the distance. She never pursued it due to being unarmed, but she knew something was out there. Even with this in mind, she felt very isolated, and she was isolated from her fellow people.
Whilst trying to search for boats one day, a large storm started rolling in. Her position was too close to the shore to be safe, so she retreated deep into the island's forests while trying to find higher ground in case of any floods. She ran deeper and deeper with the storm on her heels until she hit what she thought was someplace close the core of the island's forests, and it was then that she ran across a hysterian's worst nightmare. Five dragons while being unarmed. She was really concerned that she had not found them during the year she had been there, but then it clicked in her head that these dragons might have been the shadows and rustling that she had noticed during her sleepless nights. With her mind racing, she thought that she might be able to sneak past them or walk through unarmed because she really thought she needed to move in deeper into the forest.. If she didn't pose a threat she might be able to walk through, or that's what she hoped. Almost immediately after attempting to sneak through, a pink fume enveloped her and she stood for a little before she broke down and started to cry hysterically.
It took a couple of hours to stop crying, but she finally regained her composure. She was unsure as to why the dragons haven't gored her yet, but she was enveloped in another pink cloud and started to cry again. A couple hours had passed again, and she finally stopped crying yet again. One of the dragons offered her a small amount of leaves, which she ate remembering the bitter taste. She was grateful to have been fed, but not grateful to see another pink mist envelope her. As she cried for yet another couple of hours, she began to think that heading back to Hysteria would probably be a good idea, but the fact that she was banished made her double back to her initial ideas.
This process had continued for 48 hours. She got hit with the pink fumes every six hours and she cried her eyes out for six hours. It took her a little bit of time to figure out the role of each dragon in the group. The dragon that stayed by her the most had the role of what she assumed was the doctor. The two that were out must have been the hunter and gatherer, and she was almost positive of that idea. There was one dragon that she wasn't sure whose task was. It usually stood around the alpha dragon doing what she assumed was either watching or waiting. Then there was the alpha, and every dragon took orders from it. In between the breaks of getting breathed on, Ylva ate what the dragons gave her. She was confused by the hospitality, but she was always looking for a way out. The only problem was that she was crying so hard that she remained immobile for too long.
After the 48 hours had passed, the dragons stopped hitting her with the pink gas. She was thankful, but she was very tired from all the crying she did. She slept for a little, and when she awoke, she found the dragons still going about their business as usual. The nursing dragon was there still. The dragon seemed to look over her from head to toe before snorting and turning away.
Ylva had figured that the dragons had taken care of her hunger and they haven't killed her yet, so she should try to contribute to the group. She decided to try to help the nursing dragon. The dragon often shoved her away and subjected her to its breath. Over the course of five days, Ylva was hit with the fumes every six hours once again whilst trying to help the dragons out. She grew to be fond of the dragons, but she was really fond of the nurse dragon. It might have been the fact that it never left her side, or it could have been the fact that she was still alive for some reason. Whatever the reason was, she liked the dragon. The dragon had started to take notice of Ylva, and started to try to communicate through body language. Ylva didn't understand the tongue of the dragon, so she tried to communicate through body language as well. It was rough, and many times a misunderstanding was presented, and an impasse was reached.
During this time of living, Ylva learned the gender of the nurse dragon as well as the definitive roles of each member of the group through observation. She learned how society worked in a rough format, and she even learned a few behavioral traits of each member. She learned that the dragons breathe a fume that messes with the way living creatures work, and she started to take a liking to the effects of the fumes. She had not felt so good is so long. She had cried her frustrations away, and she felt very pleased.
The sixth day had passed, and Ylva finally picked up on a word or two of the dragon's tongue. It was fascinating to her, so she decided to stay until she had a better understanding of the language. She attempted integration with their society over the next two years through learning the nurse's task, and she did well enough to earn the respect of the dragon. She managed to teach the nurse in training how to perform the basics of the job, and she even learned enough of the language to communicate basic thoughts. The dragons provided enough tasks to perform and learn about and enough communication to keep her sanity alive. She also developed a true addiction to the fumes after subjecting herself to them many times over the course of her stay. She was often conflicted because she was taught to kill the dragons, and she was still fearful of them. She learned to trust them, however, for they were not what she expected.
The season that Ylva had first arrived in had finally come around once again, and Ylva awoke one morning to find that she had an intense desire to find another human. She sat down with the nurse to discuss leaving and taking her with. By this time, she and the nurse had formed a strong bond. The nurse was excited, and she loved the idea. She explained that the alpha needed to let them go. They approached the alpha, and Ylva explained that she wished to leave and take the nurse with. The alpha was a little miffed, and she asked the nurse if that is what she wished to do. The nurse told the alpha that it was, and the alpha sat for a while. Ylva felt the air grow cold before the alpha finally told them to go. The alpha made sure to remind them that they could not return. She stepped down and breathed the gas that Ylva loved so much all over her. She waited before she felt a quick jolt of energy and an even greater desire to leave.
The dragon whom was now her companion made a motion to hop on its back. Ylva was eager to go, and she thought of all the tales she could tell whomever would listen. Her thoughts were interrupted by a very rough take off, and she almost fell off several times trying to ride it bareback. She didn't know where she was going, but she trusted her new found companion to take her someplace safe. After falling off several times, she thought of the many names she could refer to her companion as. A few names had gone through her head, but Valdis stuck. This dragon was a beautiful creature, and she loved her.
Along the ride, Ylva learned a few things about flying and how it all works. She figured that most people would have never ridden a dragon before, and she was excited about it all. She had a feeling she couldn't shake that Valdis was taking her someplace that she had always envisioned had existed. She couldn't figure it out until the island of Berk showed up on the Horizon. There she saw many dragons and many vikings living together in a symbiotic relationship. Valdis had let loose a quiet hum that Ylva figured to be a satisfying moment of, "It's real." She landed on the docks of the village and Ylva slid off her back.
FAMILY:
Father: Asger Hedenis
Mother: Karia Hedenis
Brother: Njord Hedenis
WEAPON OF CHOICE: She practices using the standard Atgeir.
FIGHTING STYLE: She likes to keep her distance and use thrust attacks more than slashing attacks. If they get close enough, she will swing, aiming primarily for decapitation or limb loss if possible. Get too close and she gets a little frustrated, which makes her strategies sporadic and unpredictable. She will try to create distance in ways that seem unconventional, but it can get the job done.
DRAGON
NAME: Valdis
GENDER: Female

Her horns are an average size for the dragon, and her head has nothing too special about it. Her eyes are the average white. She has a missing claw on her front left foot on the side. She lost it during a scuffle with a Deadly Nadder. She fought it off with the blinding agent and hallucinations that she gives off while under attack. Other than that, she is overall average.
PERSONALITY: Valdis has a few unique traits that only the nurses of every group has. The first of them being their motherly affection and understanding. Valdis is very loving and friendly because her role requires her to be so. Another personality trait that nurses carry is humbleness. They are the lowest of the group's chain besides the lookout dragon. They understand where their place is and they accept it. The other trait that nurses carry is the the enjoyment of the little things. Valdis and other nurses take great joy in little things like flowers and little animals. Valdis has a few traits that are exclusive to her. She can be a little forgetful, so she can forget to feed Ylva's addiction to her fumes, so Ylva goes into withdrawal every now and again. Valdis is sharp to pick up details, and she likes to find things that others might miss. She might forget them, but she knows she found them. Valdis takes joy in helping around wherever she can even if doesn't know what to do.

4. She is fluent in dragonese and body language, which helps in communication.

1. She has a weaker bite than the rest of her group had.
2. She is horribly motherly and protective because of her role in her group.
3. Her scales cannot harden anywhere close to every other member of her group.
4. Her hallucinatory agent produces weaker hallucinations than every other member of her group.
