Species name: Bog Whistler
Class: Stoker
Physical Description: Bog Whistlers are large toad like dragons, their bodies are largely round with broad guts and wide mouths that allow them to swallow large prey whole. Their bodies give off powerful heat and they spend most of their day basking in the sun, the higher their internal temperature the more they swell in size until they've more than doubled their mass. At this point they literally erupt and blast boiling hot steam from their mouths. This detonation can be preveted by firing steam blasts to cool off but Bog Whistlers rarely bother to do this without being told. Their front legs are small and form more into wings than actual limbs, they need to beat these very fast to fly and it makes them clumsy in the air. Their rear legs are large and they're capable of jumping very high in one kick. Their name comes from the whisling noise they make when they get too hot. Bog Whistlers can come in all kinds of colours to show off that they are poisonus to other dragons, this means they're rarely bothered by other creatures. These colours get brighter and brighter the hotter they get.
Stats:
Attack: 8
Speed: 5
Armour: 9
Fire power: 10
Shot limit: 3
Venom: 6
Jaw Strength: 5
Stealth: 2
Typical Behaviour: Whistlers are very very lazy and most will sit in one place all day if possible, this combined with their gluttonos nature means they can be trouble and when they gather in large numbers they can cause heavy destruction, but their natural swamps take it quite easily.
Abilities: A Whistlers steam blasts are severe enough to overpower a fire blast from a Nightmare when they've reached their boiling point, increacing their heat also restores their shot limit quickly. They often sweat from their temperature and this fluid causes hallucinations, some vikings find these hallucinations addictive and go out of their way to lick these dragons. If these dragons cool down enough they shrink and become surprisingly agile but they also get grumpy in this state.
Drawbacks: Bog Whistlers are very poor fliers and while they can rotate on the spot because of their upright posture they are terrible at building up speed. Bog Whistlers are walking time bombs because of their habits and usually go off once a day unless they fire off their heat. Bog Whistlers have bad eye sight which only gets worse the hotter they get as their eyes start to bug out.
Training Methods: Bog Whistlers are bad at listening due to their lazy nature but can be convinced to obey with food, but they are also bad at learning the threat they pose when they detonate. If they find somewhere espeically hot it will take a powerful connection to make them move at all but they can be very attatched to their handlers once they've bonded and don't like to dissapoint.
Habitat: As the name suggests they live in swamps where the humidity and insect life helps support them and their lazy life. They are quite common and usually collect in hot locations all trying to cram together, this only heats them up more and their blasts tend to launch the entire pod in different directions.
Diet: Bog Whistlers usually eat flies or other animals that tend to be attracted by the heat they give off allowing them to sit in place and let their food come to them. In captivity they'll eat literally anything thats thrown into their mouthes.
