Species name: Luster Crown
Class: Mystery
Physical Description: Luster Crowns are large and imposing dragons with a tyrannosaurus build. Their large jaws are covered in pale and soft scales but around their faces their thick plumage begins and forms a very decorative crest. These feathers cover most of their bodies apart from their feet and hands which are also covered in their soft scales. Luster Crowns have large two toed feet to support their heavy bulk and their broad feathered wings are similarly powerful to lift them off the ground and fly capably. Their feathers are usually two bright contrasting colours, one making up the main of their colour and the other on the crests at the back of their head, end of their tail and in a streak along their back. When a Luster Crown charges its body with electricity its scales fade to a soft black and their feathers begin to glow a radiant white and gold making them even more impressive than they already are. Luster Crowns have biting power capable of snapping metal and can crush a heavily armoured foe like scrunching up paper as well as jaws large enough to pluck up entire vikings easily. Their eyes are small and slightly inset with capable colour vision and attention to motion. Their wings are usually held close and with their feather coat they can be hard to spot along their flanks and some are surprised when they spread them and show how large they actually are. Despite their size their feathers make them strong fliers capable of quick acceleration and changes in direction even if their maximum speed isn't quite as impressive. A Luster Crowns thick crest make it very difficult to see behind, even looking over its shoulder it struggles to see to its own tail. It can't see its rider at all so its wise to keep a hand or heel against its body to let it know you're there.
Stats:
Attack: 15
Speed: 9
Armour: 7
Fire power: 14
Shot limit: 4
Venom: 0
Jaw Strength: 18
Stealth: 3
Typical Behaviour: Luster Crowns are very social and noisy dragons liking to impress others and be the centre of attention, they hate to feel rejected or neglected and these feelings can have severe ill effects on them. They mix well with other dragons and enjoy playing and interacting with them and can become just as excited by viking company. They always seem full of energy and can need serious distractions to prevent them from rushing around chasing whatever has their attention.
Abilities: Luster Crowns can charge electricity in their bodies and release this in an arcing storm from their mouths, these blasts can last up to five seconds and cause incredible destruction. When they charge themselves their feathers galvanize and glow enough to create a sudden flash. Once their bodies are charged up their reactions and movements become far quicker but this galvanized state only lasts a few minutes and if pushed can completely exhaust the Luster Crown or even cause it to burn feathers and shed scales from trauma.
Drawbacks: If a Luster Crown feels neglected they can begin to moult and lose their feathers, this can cripple them and prevent them from flying or using their electrical charges if it goes too far. Luster Crowns are very loud dragons spending a great deal of time crowing or making other varied bird like noises, combined with their plumage they couldn't be more obvious outside their natural habitat. Luster Crowns are terrible swimmers and when their feathers are too waterlogged they can't fly and their electrical blasts become sporadic, they are usually capable of floundering to safety but some do drown in open oceans.
Training Methods: Appealing to a Luster Crowns vanity is easy to do and they will obey most instructions for praise, this however can be a bad trap to fall into as they can be convinced by almost anyone. Training them requires tempering this instinct and bonding over something deeper. If you want to really make a Luster Crown like you then sticking with it during bad times will help create a more personal connection.
Habitat: Luster Crowns are apex predators in tropical jungles and live alone commonly but gather in flocks during the breeding season. They are still quite rare as few islands have the right climate for them though they can live well in more temperate climates if cared for. They require a large roost but its a bad idea to build it too far from others and risk making the dragon feel isolated.
Diet: Despite their fearsome look Luster Crowns feed mainly on insect larva obtained by chewing up trees and eating the grubs inside the wood. They will also root in mud shallow enough to dip their jaws in without dirtying their feathers for such food. They absolutely adore honey. They don't mind hunting large game when their favourite foods aren't in season but their huge jaws mean they leave a lot of meat they couldn't reach and are easiest to feed with boneless chunks of boar or yak.
