Species name: Lockjaw
Class: Boulder Class
Images (if any): It's too big to put in the post - also, it's NOT MINE and I lay no claim to it.
Physical Description: The Lockjaw is very large and very strong. Its scales are reddish-brown in color, with tan, orange, and gray-brown being common secondary colors. The Lockjaw has very large wings to carry its weight through the air, the webbing of which is a lighter color than the dragon's scales. The eyes are either orange, red, or yellow.
The Lockjaw has spikes on the tail, forehead, jaw, chin, and above the eyes. The tail spikes are often used in a fight, and the spikes on the head are used for intimidation and occasionally defense.
The front feet of the Lockjaw have four toes with small, straight claws. The back feet have three larger, longer toes with bigger, hooked claws.
Typical Behavior: Lockjaw dragons have a strong sense of community and live together in groups. These groups are very social and groups in the same region will communicate frequently with each other, forming a loose alliance of sorts. If a Lockjaw bonds with a human, the human has made a ferociously loyal for life. The tamed Lockjaw's group will also regard the human rider as one of their own, given time and sufficient interaction. However, if a human takes the Lockjaw away from their group by force or without letting the Lockjaw 'explain', the group will likely rain fire upon the human and their village in an attempt to reclaim their own.
Abilities: The Lockjaw spews molten rock, similar to their more popular cousin, the Gronkle. They are also quite intelligent.
Shot Limit: 5
Drawbacks: The Lockjaw is slow and not very maneuverable, in air or on land. They also present a very large target and are incredibly visible, especially when not in their native rocky habitat. They are also not very good swimmers, so if you're riding one and you go down over water, you're screwed. The Lockjaw also has a low shot limit.
Blind spot: Behind, below, and above the head. The Lockjaw has good forward and peripheral vision, but no up-down-backwards vision.
Training Methods: Lockjaws adore being fed and pampered, and especially loves having its spines and scales cleaned.
Habitat: The Lockjaw prefers to live near lava, or on barren islands, although they have been known - particularly those with browner scales - to settle on other islands. The largest Lockjaw colonies can be found on Dragon Island, Red Rock, and Itchy Armpit. Smaller colonies live on the smaller islands surrounding Berk. A few brave souls have taken up residence near Hysteria.
The Lockjaw dragons who live near Red Rock are in conflict with the Empire, as they do not consider themselves part of it.
Diet: Lockjaws eat many things - fish, deer, pigs, sheep, yak, rocks, even other dragons on occasion - but they absolutely refuse to touch eels, like most dragons.
