NAME: Brand Curador
AGE: 20 years old
ORIGIN: Born on Berk, stayed on Berk.
OCCUPATION: Currently learning how to be a real dragon healer. At least he wishes to ensure they are all healthy. Prepared Dragon Rider (has passed the test, does not have a dragon yet)
GENDER & SEXUALITY: Male. Heterosexual. Might change..? In theory, no.
LIKES: Learning, understanding things, seeing dragons and people healthy, cloudy weather, nighttime, silence, wandering around, nice people.
DISLIKES: Forgetting something he considered important, wounds on others - mainly on himself, yuck -, the Sun, too much noises, being stuck at home, sports, fighting uselessly, telling about himself.
STRENGTHS: Is very confident about himself, keeps calm very easily, has an average strength and agility to face numerous situations, is very observant, rarely becomes sick.
WEAKNESSES: Wants very often to do things by himself even if he just can't, is unable to speak this loud (close to be mute), is way too much confident, hardly trust in others.
FEARS: Is afraid of heights (it is slight when leaving the ground, but it gets serious over 50 meters if he's not with someone trustfull), being wholy covered in blood (it came from a nightmare), losing a limb or anything that could make him handicapped, being underwater, squids, ghosts.
AMBITIONS: Would like to know anything about dragons' diseases and ways to cure them, wants to meet once again with his closest friend, wishes to see his future own dragon acting as a friend and not as an enslaved beast (so he'd not feel bad about it), being known as the best dragon healer, plans to befriend/tame a wild dragon all by himself with no help nor violence (nor submission to the dragon ._.)
SECRETS: Sometimes puts some powder made from plants on dragons' food in the arena (these plants are known to give vitamins to the one consuming them) , keeps a diary hidden in his bedroom.
OVERALL PERSONALITY: It is not this easy to know if Brand likes to live in a society or not. When it comes to be with people, he would mostly avoid them unless he has to or if he needs them for anything special. Otherwise, he has nothing against people going to him, as long as they are friendly. Even if he does not show it, Brand easily listens to people when they are in trouble and accepts their point of view as long as it is not about destroying something.
Despite his vertigo, Brand has little loss of focus when flying onto a trustfull dragon as long as the flight is slow, soft, and nice. Whenever it starts to move around, he would just scream and release his grip on the saddle. Goodbye Brand. Hopefully there's a dragon to catch you.
He put apart the idea of training his own dragon, considering it is not the main goal people should have. According to him, it is way more about mutual survival : if one lives, why wouldn't the other one live to ? Death will come at some time, so would Valhalla, but if someone can be successful in death, Brand wants to show that someone can be successful in his lifetime. By learning how to cure tamed dragons - and why not wild ones with some help - he believes he would allow them to make something great in their lives, as, according to Brand, healers do with humans.
Fighting is not a game. Not at all. Brand would not put on a fight if there's no need to, so when there's no one nor territory to protect. He just does not want to reach Valhalla if there has been no reason about making a fight.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Brand is 1.78 meters tall (5.8 feet), with an average build. He does not looks like the strongest viking ever, but he is not the weakest either. His muscles are not the best ones when it comes to efficiently wield a heavy weapon, so he got used to lighter ones. His blond hair are long enough to reach his chin's height, and they are longer on the back of his head, falling between his shoulders. His head, oval, shows two blue eyes. Slightly frowning by nature, Brand often looks like he is upset about something, even more when he actually is. Having light scars over his arms and torso, these ones are not very noticeable, but still a way to remember that he had to face mean dragons during his own formation. The deepest one crosses along his left arm, from the shoulder to the elbow, thanks to a Deadly Nadder. It has been close, that day.
Brand usually wears thick clothes, but he does not like fur this much. Unless he has to, he would refuse to have this as a material for what he is wearing. Details ? Well, thick raw leather vest, thick raw leather pants too, as well for the boots. Onto these clothes is a cape covering a good part of Brand's body, only his left flank and arm - the one with the scar - are visible the whole time. Made of sheep skin, it has been tainted to look like raw leather as well.
He also wears a red cotton scarf around his neck, a gift from someone close. Brand rarely takes it off.
HISTORY: Once born on Berk, this young viking got the name of Brand. His two parents got him at a young age but they knew how to raise their son. They tought him how to wield a weapon according to his build - they chose the shortsword - when he was strong enough to do so. Brand had six years when he really interacted with a tamed dragon. Frida, his mother, just finished to tame an old Deadly Nadder, called SoftSting this day. The dragon, as expected, has been nice and friendly with Brand, and over time his interrest toward dragons grew up. In the meanwhile, Frida and Ardgar, Brand's father, tought him how to mount a dragon and how to take care of one. It has been a great opportunity to discover that the little boy could not face the sudden height the day he flight with his mother.
Three years later, he almost fell from a window. Way enough to stay in his mind. Thankfully, someone was right there to catch the young viking before he reached the ground.
From that day the family tried to help him overcome his fear.
When he was aged 13, Brand started his formation as a dragon tamer. During these three years, he had more opportunities to face his vertigo, slowly getting used to face it. However, it had limits, and the teachers knew how to allow him to progress. SoftSting gladly helped his owner's son when the lessons implied some flight. Passing his test, after his 16th birthday, has not been a piece of cake, but with some efforts Brand finalluy managed to pass it with the old Deadly Nadder.
"Never, never again..!" said the viking when he came back home.
Despite this, he tried, again and again, to get rid of his fear with the help of SoftSting.
Two years later, it was time for the dragon to leave this world.
Devastated, Brand had troubles to recover from this loss, way more than his mother. During months, the viking has been way more open to people, trying to be comforted by any way. And weeks later, he met Ulrika.
This girl had his age and acted nice and friendly. Instead of just replying 'poor boy' or 'it's gonna be alright', she actually wanted to help him. It has not been an easy task, but talking with Brand, staying next to him and even laughing from time to time made things better. Everyone could see them as a young couple, but there was nothing of it. Instead, Brand and Ulrika saw themselves as very close friend, almost brother and sister. His new friend had no dragon this day either and had troubles to make Brand recover strength to face vertigo once more. Every day was filled with smiles and happiness, but here comes the cliché.
Aged 19, Brand had to say goodbye to his sister-by-heart. Ulrika just teammed up with other vikings to wander along the seas, seeking treasures and unknown lands and creatures. Leaving with this group of adventurers, Brand only had Ulrika's scarf, given by her before she left. "This way, if I want it back, I'll have to come back, eventually, don't you think ?"
The young viking no longer had wounds from his Nadder's loss and saw he could try to face his fear once again. Since a dragon and a friend cured him, he started to want to return the favor. Looking for a way to do so, the only way he found was to become a healer. However, he preferred to become a dragon healer rather than a human healer. According to him, it was way more enjoyable and thrilling...
Now twenty, Brand barely started his studies by working with people currently being dragon healers. When Ulrika would come back, he would want to show her how much he progressed in his life and got better.
FAMILY:
Frida Curador : Mother, aged 41.
Ardgar Curador : Father, aged 45.
'Curador' is not a viking name. Brand's grand-grandfather came on Berk from a distant land, and he had this name.
WEAPON OF CHOICE: Short sword. Not the strongest weapon for a viking, but Brand prefers speed and accuracy over power. Also this is an useful tool when it comes to remove things from wounds, etc.
FIGHTING STYLE: Against a human, it is about dodging most of the time, parrying if there's no choice. Whenever there's an opportunity to strike, he does so. Brand would try to use his surroundings to incapacitate his opponent. His goal in a fight isn't to kill but to ensure an opponent would let him go, willingly or not. Obviously, if his opponent is a threat, Brand would try to kill it.
Against a larger creature (such as, you got it, a dragon), Brand would aim for the eyes or under the neck, since it is very difficult to escape from a dragon chasing you down.
DRAGON : THERE'S NO DRAGON WHAHAHAHAhahaahaaa... ahem. Brand has no dragon currently, however he plans to try to gain one's trust at some time - or to tame it if that stupid lizard bit his hand !
Things would be way easier this way when it comes to wander around and to look for plants in far lands.
