Woolly Howl
Class:Strike
Physical Description:
The fine dark scales on the back of this blizzard-loving Strike Class dragon are often mistaken for fur at a distance, but this dragon is far from cuddly. There are no spines or spikes along its whole body. The dark brown coloration and the shape of its scales resemble that of a Golden Eagle's feathers, or a Brown Bear's fur.
The Woolly Howl's pale, plated belly lets it blend in with the cold white clouds in the sky. It uses this cover to launch it's attack. They are slightly larger and bulkier than a Night fury. Their very long, loose scales line the wings, yet still show the classic webbing. They have a tail fin that's roughly circle in shape.
They have purple eyes and a purple tongue, which is unique to the species.
Typical Behaviour:
The Woolly Howl's ability to resist blizzard storms gives it the advantage over other dragons. They can use this to make an ambushed attack on their prey. Their pale colours make it easy for them to blend into a snow storm environment. Like all Strike Class dragons, the Woolly Howl is stealthy and very dangerous. It can blend its lighter colored belly with the clouds and can fire its ice blast when not being spotted, similar to an unexpected hailstorm. When trained, the Woolly Howl is very loyal and resembles a dog if compared to a pet, as it is proud and confident, similar to a Stormcutter.
Abilities:
As a Strike Class dragon, the Woolly Howl is extremely fast, powerful, accurate, stealthy and intelligent. The Woolly Howl's body is streamlined, with no part of its body that creates more air resistance to slow it down. It has large wings to propel it's heavy body quickly in the air. They have good reflexes.
Wooly howls have the ability to fire lots of hail-like shards of ice on their attackers, most frequently attacking from above where it's safe.
Woolly Howls are one of the few dragons that have resitance and can thrive in blizzard conditions.
Shot Limit: 4
Drawbacks:
It's bulky body reduces it's speed capacity compared to other strike class dragons.Their bulk means they are slow on the ground, so they are not great at defending themselves when grounded. Their hail-attack is less effective when shot horizontally.
Blind spot: They are always open from behind! If you can survive to get behind them, anyway!
Training Methods: They can be simple to train, but it is actually finding one first. One needs to have the guts to brave hazardous blizzards where the dragon lives, and coax them from hiding, which would require a lot of trust. Proof of determination against the bad weather will make them curious enough to approach.
Habitat: Woolly Howls are rare. They seek comfort in hostile environments where blizzards, snow storms and seething cold temperatures are a permanent placement.
Diet: Creatures lost in the storms. Seals, gulls, reindeer, fish
