Species name: Reefracer
Class: Tidal
Physical Description: Reefracers have short and smooth beaked faces with thick frongs sweeping back behind their heads and along their wings. These frongs have points of luminescence that these dragons use to communicate. Reefracers are colourful usually having mixed markings and colours on their soft scaled bodies much like the colourful fish and coral they live among. Reefracers have a mustelid build that lets them sprint and leap around out of water and their large fronged wings propel them swiftly in the water and air. Reefracers have large paddle like tails similar to a tadpole to help them manoeuvre quickly in the water. Having no fangs or horns Reefracers use their clawed feet in close combat swiping and often attempting to latch onto larger dragons to snap and claw at them in a frenzy. When they want to be Reefracers are loud and surprisingly vicious especially when facing off against larger dragons.
Typical Behaviour: Playful and curious Reefrunners spend much of their day flitting around and exploring their surroundings before finding somewhere to curl up and snooze. These dragons usually live in small groups of about 5 enjoying the company and frolicking together like otters.
Abilities: Having softer scales and long bodies allows Reefracers to move very flexibly and responsively and transition between water and air quickly. Able to eat most kinds of food Reefracers are easy to keep happy and eagerly try new things. Reefracers learn fast and are quick thinkers as well as just being quick in general, in flight they can match dragons like Nightmares but the rate they pick up speed and process their surroundings is on a whole other level.
Shot Limit: 8 bursts of steam that can scald and burn their target, when fired beneath the surface these bubbles of steam can rise quickly and carpet bomb from below.
Drawbacks: With their softer bodies Reefracers are less protected from physical harm and if trapped or pinned by larger dragons are vulnerable. Reefracers don't have good self control and can be a pest stealing food or forcibly trying to get attention. A Reefracers undulating movements can be difficult for some riders to handle and aren't advised for vikings with weak stomachs or grips. Reefracers aren't the kind of dragon that can keep flying all day, swimming or running maybe but their wings aren't made for long haul flying without breaks.
Blind spot: Reefracers have very narrow blind spots because of their flexibility but can't see directly beneath them, often they hop around trying to catch things that move beneath them.
Training Methods: Reefracers love games and get very excited and bouncy if their rider is willing to play with them. They also don't like to sleep alone so creating space beside your bed where they can lie helps, but don't be surprised when they climb in with you. Cornering a Reefracer is a bad idea, when they feel trapped they start to lash out and become frenzied. It can be useful to watch how a Reefracer lights up since they use it to communicate and can convey surprisingly complex emotions through it.
Habitat: Like Seashockers and Sliquifiers Reefracers are often hunted by Scauldrons and like them has developed a method to avoid these dragons. Reefracers live in thick coral forests with lots of caves and tight spaces a Scauldron couldn't fit through to hide in. They always live within a short sprint of land being much more manoeuvrable out of the water than their predators. Some cases have been seen of Reefracers luring Scauldrons in their territories onto land to fight them where the Scauldron loses alot of its advantages and can be driven away.
Diet: Reefracers feed on almost everything in their homes, seaweed, fish, anemones, anything.
