CURRENT IC SEASON - DEVASTATING WINTER
It was a normal day like any other. Fern was just waking up, ready to go and see Jokul; she hadn't a care in the world, being only seventeen years old. The world was just opening up for her; she had learned to fly a dragon in recent years, learned to train and was excelling in her lessons, and even had a new boyfriend. Well, everyone knew that last bit; her and Jokul weren't exactly secretive about their relationship, anymore. And if people hadn't caught on already, Starkards emotional radar quickly gave away their feelings when they were around each other.
So just like any morning, Fern cracked open one eye, hoping for a few more moments rest, before springing out of bed as she realized she could go see Jokul. She ran downstairs, only to see something which made her stop midstep, scrambling to catch her balance. For what she saw she knew wasn't good; there before her were her parents, their gazes fixated on her. Quickly her father looked away, but her mother merely smiled wearily.
"Come here, sweetheart." Called her mother softly, to which Fern hesitated, but then slowly descended down the stairs. "Y-Yes?" She said tentatively, her eyes shifting from her father to her mother slowly. "What've I done now?"
Her mother laughed, her father shook his head with a weary smile. "Nothing, dearest, nothing." Her mother reassured her. Fern edged around the table, gripping the chairs lightly as she did so. "Okay... so what... why are you acting all... weird?"
At this Brutus grunted half a laugh and half a sigh, and her mother smiled more broadly, "Well, as you know, when a man and a woman love each other..."
"Oh gods no, mom, we've already had this talk!"
Brutus couldn't help but laugh heartily for a few moments, Olivia glaring at him before he cleared his throat, yet still couldn't help a few chuckles. Fern looked to her mother as she looked back to her, exhasperated. "As you know, when that happens... things... happen... and sometimes..."
"Mom... What are you saying..."
"I'm saying sometimes, when two people love each other it results in-"
"No-"
"Fern."
"You're not."
"I am."
"You can't be! I mean, you're OLD!"
"Fern!"
"No, this is wrong. I'm your child. You can't just have another one! You should've asked first!"
"Fern, you're being ridiculous."
"No, you're ridiculous! I'm going to be the laugh of the town!"
"Fern..."
"I'm done! I'm going... out..."
"Fern, wait-!"
But before they could stop her, she had ran out the door, tears blinding her, leaving her parents clambering out of their chairs, watching her figure disappear in the distance.
