Species name: Echo Raver
Class: Tracker
Images (if any):
Physical Description: Echo Ravers have a hyena like build, longer front legs than back resulting in a loping gait, despite it these dragons are impressive runners and tend to stay on foot whenever the option is available. Ravers have strong jaws and protruding tusks on their lower jaws that they use to drive off other dragons, these are almost twice the size on males because of how seriously this dragon takes defending its mate or fighting to obtain one. With most of their muscles for their jaws and front legs knotted up in their shoulders Ravers have hunched shoulders to house all that muscle. Ravers slim tails end in a bulbous bony ball, despite their fierce teeth this is the dragons most powerful weapon. Echo Ravers have tall triangular ears that can move to pick up sounds all around the dragon. Ravers usually come in earthy shades of brown and grey that help them camouflage when they're young but as they grow they often develop streaks of more vibrant colours.
Typical Behaviour: Echo Ravers are smart hunters and surprisingly stealthy living similar to many other savanna predators, they hunt in mated pairs flanking shoals of fish or small animals so one can scare the prey towards the other. Raver pairs mate for life and are almost inseparable but in domesticated environments these dragons have been seen to mate with many breeds of dragon and become just as attached to their partner. One large territory will usually contain two to six pairs that coexist without fighting and will band together to drive off dragons that try to invade their homes or attack any of the pairs. Because of their exceptional hearing Ravers can seem jumpy or even deranged because they respond to things most vikings or other dragons can't perceive.
Abilities: Echo Ravers have very powerful and controlled hearing allowing them to catch noises from long distances or block them out even when they're close, as such Echo Ravers can follow dragons by their calls and communicate with a wide variety of calls of their own. Ravers have powerful jaws and front legs making them swift runners and deep biters as well as locking their jaws shut as strong as a dragon trap.
Shot Limit: Echo Ravers don't have shots in a traditional sense, really they don't have 'shots' at all, nor do they have a true limit. Echo Ravers create deafening sounds by striking their tails against solid objects disorienting both dragons and vikings to the point of internal or even permanent damage. Because of the specialised chambers inside their tails an Echo Raver can only safely strike it five times in quick succession, using it too much at once can crack its shell making every hit over five a dangerous gamble for the dragon, too much stress on it can even shatter it permanently.
Drawbacks: An Echo Ravers tail is only a threat as long as theres something for it to strike against, an Echo Raver in the open air can struggle to use its sound attacks at all. Echo Ravers are very susceptible to Grimora's usually living inland and near fresh water as well as having large ears, whole packs sometimes become infected by these parasites and go on devastating rampages.
Blind spot: The thick muscle in their neck stops Echo Ravers from lifting their heads very far making it hard for them to see above them, and anything above and behind their shoulders is almost impossible to see.
Training Methods: Echo Ravers are very noisy dragons both because of their tails and because they often roar and howl into the wind, especially after dark. Joining them when they're crying out can be a good way to bond with the dragon, though not with any viking living within earshot. Ravers are also avidly fond of chewing on things so keeping a collection of things for them to gnaw on will help keep them cheerful.
Habitat: Echo Ravers live in open grasslands and savannas where they have plenty of space to run and dig out dens. Ravers are useful at keeping the balance of nature in these locations since they eat so many different things and clean up the scraps from other dragons down to crushing the bones for marrow. Ravers never live anywhere even remotely close to Night Furys, with the two making such use of sound and able to hear so well they tend to loath one another because of their sounds interfering with the others.
Diet: Fish and small mammals. Ultimately they aren't fussy and will eat most any meat. Even rotten meat is good food to them.
