Attention back on the lesson, she grinned as Halldor nodded to her. That was going to be awesome. She had been wanting to try her hand at some sparring recently, and this was the perfect chance rather than fighting someone in the streets. And then to confirm it, the other confirmed it. He added if they paid more attention they would do better and she frowned a bit. She was going to do great, no matter how much she listened. She could feel it, but instantly turned her attention to Ulrika as she took up the challenge, and a sly grin spread across her features. "Oh yeah?"
But her train of thought was cut short as she felt Sundra's arm pulling her slightly. She simply grinned like a goof at the statement, unable to determine if that was an insult, a compliment or simply the truth. Frankly she didn't care either way, it just made her stop and think on it. She also couldn't help but noticed Ulrika attemptingto free herself. That however, didn't take long when they were interrupted by a new arrival.
A shrill yelp escaped her as Nadder spikes shot past, dangerously close. "Sweet Odin's beard!" She didn't have time to dodge them, what with Sundra being right there and still trying to pay attention to the lesson at the same time. Ulrika however who had been far closer to the spines almost flew out of the way. Spit how ever went stiff as she heard the sound of something setting itself into the sheild on her back. "Oh God's is it bad?" One spike had lodged itself near the edge of the wood of her shield. She hadn't even noticed the Nadder the spines had come from, but she heard a faint apology that sounded vaguely familiar.
"Oh, hi Fern." She called behind her slightly as the other older ViT joined the ranks. She had intended to say more, but Halldor spoke now and she decided against it. She listened to what he said, even thought it wasn't inteded for her. The words would prove useful later, or at least they sounded like they would. But in her focus on that she realzied she had been ignoring the other 'teacher'. She turned her head back to him, as he started talking about the weapons.
'Eugh he talks too quick, how am I suppose to pick up on anything.' She found it hard to follow, having to turn her head every so often to check her surroundings an in doing so she would lose where they were in the lesson due to her hearing dropping depending on what ear was turned towards the front.
She took a step back as he took out the sword, perhaps out of instinct of having a blade pointed at her, but also because he had called it a longsword, she expected it to be longer than it was. Disappointed in it's length she put one hand on her hip trying to take mental notes on what he was saying.
She wasn't quite sure she absorbed the information that had been verbally vomited at them when he changed from explaining to the next part. Her head still swimming with the fact there was a Nadder spine lodged in her shield. 'Huh? Partners?' She looked around the group. She knew most people would gravitate towards friends, or alternatively rivals. But she just stood there looking dumb. "Hey, silent guy." She figured since he hadn't said a word he was paying attention, and might be fun to see if they both managed to pick up the same amount of information. Though he likely had an easier time of it, considering she had to turn her head at weird angles to see and hear at the same time. "You game?" She was going to partner up with him even if he said no now, but she had a feeling no one would really care one way or another.
Reluctantly she unbuckled her own shield from her back, figuring it would only get in the way. With that off, she put it and the strap off to the side. Walking over to the barrel of weapons she grabbed a buckler, stupidly taking it with her left arm. That left her to take the dulled longsword in her right. Even with it's smaller size, she had quite a time getting it free of the barrel. She instantly switched it into her left hand, realizing that she was probably going to be destined to use one handed weapons.
